I actually think that price is a little too high. I mean, the games are already made. I was looking forward to around the $1 - $3 range. $4.50, maybe. $9? Ive seen current gen games less than a year old for $9.99!

Higher than what I was expecting, but still, not tooooo bad.

Yeah, I wonder if the $9 is for GC games, or if they will only offer games up through N64. The low end is dissapointing, though, $4.50 for even the oldest games...:hmm:

According to wii.ign.com those prices are for new titles. They haven't announced pricing for old titles yet.

When you consider the cost of a single mp3 is around $0.99 for any song I don't think it's so bad to pay somewhere around $4.50 - $8.99 for something I will get a whole lot more mileage out of. Just look at what people pay for a simple add-on to Oblivion.

It's only for newly created, small budget games that are downloadable.

I think it's a reasonable price tag.

You are shooping for MP3's at the wrong place mate!

I dont think I would be interested in this. I'm more a technology guy myself, I like to see new features/graphics/sound, not old stuff thats been done.

Nintendo's president Iwata said, "We'd like people to play new, low-scale games (http://wii.ign.com/articles/711/711629p1.html#) for 500 yen or 1000 yen." So that's just for newly developed games as of right now.

the article says classic nintendo games, not newly created. There may be newly created as well, but I thin the NES and SNES games are the big deals.

When they first announced that you could play the old games I was excited. I was expecting it to just be part of the online fee, like how one pays a monthly amount for xbox live. But the fact that you have to buy them individually for as much as $8 is ridiculous. I've got a modded xbox, with a NES, SNES, and Genesis emulators running on it, I think I'll just stick with that. This was going to be a great selling point for buying a Wii, but charging this much will negate that strength in my opinion.

haha, well nintendo has to get money somewhere. They're selling the wii cheap, so games are the logical choice for profits

Yes those emulators are free and legal but what about the ROM themselves?

In case of Nintendo's games, seems like they're still commercially viable or will be again with the Virtual Console and are still copyrighted so what you're suggesting is illegal isn't it?

Nintendo stated long ago, repeatedly, and it has been posted on here, that all their retro collection would be free and that pricing of other retro titles would depend on the copyright owners so how anyone's extrapolating that NES titles will cost $4.50 a pop is beyond me.

This is clearly for new titles a la XBox Live Arcade which are similarly priced, as stated in the above article.

Personally, I would like to see a system where you can just type in the serial off your old cart and you get the "rom," or whatever they are calling them, for free. Of course, that would make it all too easy to get games you didn't originally buy..
