View Full Version : noise in vray
meykurt 06-07-2006, 07:46 PM hi all. please explain me why this noise happens?? rendered in vray, irradiance map for first and quasi montecarlo for second bounce. irradiance map preset is low. nothing changed in rollouts. there are two vray lights and a direct light. i guess it happens because of low irradiance map. but need help. is there a solution to get rid of this?
thanks..

Dont cheat your self. Always use vray lights if you can. You just need plenty of samples.
The vray light produces much better results.
Also, try lightcache. It produces very smooth lighting and is MUCH faster than QMC for
secondary bounces.
One more thing, if you use the IR presets, use at least the med preset.
Good luck.:)

thanks MmikeE
i have rendered this piece with two vray lights at two windows, one omni at front window, one direct light at the right window and two omnis at back of the room. i am happy with that. samples of the vray lights are 16. ir preset is low. i will render with high samples (64) and medium preset and send the result.

thanks MmikeE, i am very happy that you like.
here is the result, just vray lights at windows and a direct. samples 64. i think this is better:). however it tooks my machine 72 minutes to render at this resolution.

Looks great.:) But the render time is still way to long. Can you post your settings for this ?
I may be able to help you get the times down. I render much more complex scenes with lots of
glossies, refraction, and displacement at resolutions that are triple what you have here.
Regards,
Mike
edit : You dont need that many light samples (64). I usually use between 18-32 max.

thanks MmikeE for helping. here are the settings. as you see there are 2 omnis, 2 vray lights, one direct. omnis' multipliers 1, vraylight at the top 2,4 mult. and 64 subd. , vray light at the left mult. 2 and subd. 64, direct light mult. 40.

Hello again.
First off, definately lower your light subdivisions. They are way to high. Around 24 -36 will be more than enough. Also, for such a small area, I dont think you need that many lights. I sometimes use a large vray light close to the cieling if I need more fill light.
And definately use at least the medium preset for the IR map, and at least 1200 subdivisions for the light cache. If you can illiminate a few lights and bring down those light subdivisions you should be able to increase you IR and LC settings and still get a better render time.
All in all, great work.
Regards,
Mike
Edit : For the most part, I would un-check "store direct light". It looks better in the end
(to me). And you dont typicaly need as many subdivisions on a direct light. Just make sure you have Vray shadow as area shadow on it.

Hi, meykurt. Just here to share some personal view.
I usually use 8 subdiv for my light, even for a large area, it won't produce much noise and give nice result & fast render. But you must have vray 1.47.03 for such a low subd of light (as someone told me older version of vray need much more subdv for light to get smooth result.)
for light cache, I'm a bit differ from MmikeE. I only use 400 - 700 subdv. 1200 or higher subdv is for those image that has a lot of tiny details in my solution.
Anyway, I'm still quite new to vray, so if I got anything wrong, please correct me. ^_^
