Here's a kind of "shelf" which may be shared through the Internet or a local network. It may be useful for collaborative projects. Feel free to edit the Mel scripts or upload icons for review purposes. (remember to click "refresh" in your browser to see new icons). The server is a bit slow (works fine on a local network).

"Shelf"

"Shelf Editor"

I checked this out! Its great!
Certainly a great way to centralise custom controls.

This would also be good if anybody could upload there shelves a web site, share them and download load them in other locations. Lots of possiblities

I also noticed that the web hosts ads covered up the top of the shelf if in a smaller window.

nice work! Keep it up.

Thanks Fred22, I really needed that one, since I've been troubleshooting for a bit too long on that one and have'nt received much response on it.

That's a neat idea! Due to the mouse effects of the "shelf" you just can't rightclick and save the icons (can be changed, sacrificing the mouse hovereffects). For grabbing icons I use MWsnap with autosave, and set to 32x32px, so I just need to point on an icon and click, and it's saved.

If you want to add additional "shelves" I've arranged that in the structure of the code so that its easily done. The things needed to be done to add additional shelves is:
1. Duplicate one of the subfolders, name it anything.
2. Edit two tiny text files in the new folder, the first is the path on the server and the second is the name of the new "shelf".
3. If you want the new "shelf" to appear on a menu when you click on the top button, you just add a link to it in a file called menu01.php, which is a "global" menu.

(I just added this information if anyone is seriously interested in supporting/using this stuff, maybe adding some kind of free service on a popular site.)

You're right, this buddy needs a better server, although if you allow a bigger browser window and place it on your right hand side of the screen you don't need to see the commercials (meanwhile I borrow the server for testing purposes).

Brilliant. First really clever use of the built-in browser, and the editor is a great idea. Gets around the shared shelf problems people have (good breakdown of this on the highend mailing list recently). Much more interesting than the usual browser demo of character controls, always seem a little silly.

And then autodesk take the browser out of maya 8. *sigh*

I hate that they took the browser out, my autoUpdate script relied on that... oh well.
