Hey all, well, this is a link to my semi-final demo reel. Final of course until I have some better stuff done. :) I have gotten critiques from game company folks as well as filmic types and they don't seem to agree on anything that should be cut or added, so, I'd like it if as many of you faithful CG-Talkers could chime in and be brutal. Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: Hey guys/gals, I've cut some stuff out, let me know which reel you think is stronger. Thanks again!

Hi

I like your reel mate. I'm not an animator but I can give you my impression of your reel (I only watched the full version)

The best piece on there is the guy saying he's not crazy, I love the final pose and the staring eyes

The 2 things that I noticed right away were the reaction of the guy on the stage when the person falls from the rafters, and the weight of the remote control as it falls from the guys hand - These 2 things were not at the same standard as the rest of the reel

Hope thats a help

ah, thanks man! an intuitive critique of a reel is just as helpful as a technical one, thanks!

Some good work on there...congrats. My favorite is the guy watching tv, then standing up.

IMO, maybe there's a little too much of the audition piece. And perhaps it's not necessary to dedicate so much time to your drawings, especially if you're searching for an animation position? Just a suggestion. Ah, and I'm saying that after seeing the long version, not the short.

Nice work though....
Good luck!

Hi. Nice reel. I can totally relate to you!!! I was just passing my reel around wanting to cut it down and make it shorter. It is a nightmare! Everyone thinks you should drop a different piece. I finally just left mine alone and will take some more out when I finish my next piece. After all I went through on my last round of asking people I think it comes down to only asking a few trusted people and then trusting yourself to making your the right decisions. Heh- Easier said then done - as I said - I just ended up leaving mine alone. ;)

And on that note - here is my opinion. I totally like the shorter version better. When it is over it makes you appear stronger to me. Also in that reel I would still take out the man sitting up on the table or bench behind him. His hand is too obvious when it goes though the surface and that may be the thing they remember at the end. Also the following piece where the guy steps on the block and back down. I would drop it too. It does not have much motion in the wrists and I think it is weaker then the other stuff. So I would drop those two.

Over all I think you have a nice reel! Great job!
