View Full Version : Enviromn Ent - LOTR based character - Photoshop painting
Bruzundanga 01-11-2003, 04:12 PM Hello there 2d guys.
I posted this images in the wip sessions, but nobody cares. 3 replys....
I think my work is getting worse or something....
I'll try 2D room before througwing myself into a river
:hmm:
It's a version for Treebeard, LOTR character. I called it Environm Ent. It was painted in photoshop, and some parts are missing details (it's a wip). I wont put anymore images till it's finished (it's close) because of the rules...
Credits to DM² for the sketch and idea for that guy.
I only painted.
Environm Ent Wip #6 (http://www.torreismo.kit.net/temp/entwip6.jpg)
a closest pic of his face (changed the default eyes, do not like'em)
Environm Ent Wip #7 (http://www.torreismo.kit.net/temp/entwip7.jpg)
Please, give your coments

I can see it and I like it...:buttrock:
is the forest a photo or yours?
may only critique is the background looks photo real and the Ent a bit cartoony...but thats only my opinion..
nice color rending on the Ent though....
overall a very nice piece..
I can't see the image with the links provided either. But the attached image looks wonderful (although a bit small to make out any details). Fix your image hosting problems, because I'd like to see a larger image.
From what I can make out on the smaller one, my only comment is that the character seems very well lit while the trees surrounding him are very dark. This makes the character seem pasted into the illustration like he doesn't really belong. I think if you add some additional light and textures onto the trees to the left it would make it more integrated and believable.
I'm waiting to see a larger pic until I add any additonal comments. Looks good though.

:D LOL!
Everything is painted. No photos used.
New Photoshop brushes rocks a lot.
What are you meaning 'bout ent? The form or maybe colours?
Kirt, I really don't know what happens to these limks here on CGtalk. The links were used on another forum and they saw it well. I cannot undestand, but here's a close-up
used auto color
to get rid of the 'green' so as to see more details... but the default 'ambient light' is green...

Nice, I saw the image in the 3Donline mailing list.
I like it, but for the final, color image, I would love the photographic background and go for a more cartoonish one, like the ent itslef.
Muito bom, parabéns.

Love it! Except the lighting effects on the full body image, it obscures the character too much. Or at least the light rays could be toned down a bit.

Finally you could see my images!!
Thanks for replying
CgFreak: The paiting was really ease. You only have to separate the tones.... and paint layers and layers... merge all and ta-da!!!
Or something like this
I really don't know about a tutorial... not beacause I'm hiding my secrets or something, haha
no
it's just because my time is tooooo stricted, but you were not the first to ask me this. I'll think about a tutorial in the future. Promise.
Kananga.... I dislike these sun rays tomorrow's morning when I woke up. Last night it was soo dark.. and now it's shinning a lot...
hee
I'll tone down and give it a yellow look
Thanks to you all
Keep posting

OK, i'll gonna ask a last question till leave this topic alone and solitaire
Why everybody enters but nobody reply? Is the image not appearing or is my work that bad?
God, I see lots os threads there with few views and lots of replys.
What is wrong here? Didn't you like the paiting? Or style?
Do I have to paint like Craig Mullins to receive some critics?
At least give me a big critic like 'hate this hole crap' or 'dawn you and yours for this s**t'
I won't care. But I really need to know the reason why.
Thanks
Uhm ... the reply-to-view ratio is pretty low around here. You can see that by looking at the other threads in this forum. You're getting as many replies as any other thread (if you do the averages).
It made the front page ... doesn't that tell you that it's good?
I can't think of anything else to critique on it. I gave you input when it was WIP. Now that it's done, it's beautiful! Feel proud for finishing it ... not how many replies you get.

Replies dont give you happyness. Money does.
I havent replied this thread cuz i hadnt any useful critics and i dont like to be one of those fanboys. But i know sometimes a "wow great!" is nedeed (although you should know your artwork is awesome, front page material).
I love the ent, and overall the background. It would be great to see some closeups to appreciate all the details you put on it. Maybe id change the eyes to a less comic style, but thats cuz im absolutely influenced by T2T ents, of course.

Sorry guys, now I feel so unhappy for the words I said. Really sorry. But you please understand, illustration is not my work. I only paint for hobby. I'm a designer, and when I do a illustration, the very first in about 5 months, put in here and few of you reply, eh, what do you mind I would think?
When I put this illustration here, I was expecting some critics and maybe some praises, why not? Knowing what people think about your work is better than not receiving any replies...
I personally think that you have to say to someone what you think about his work if he asks to. I spite of not having a critic to do, a good word about it gives to the artist strength to keep working, only because someone liked his job.
Some of the illustrators here in this forum receives all my respect. Receiving your critics or not I'll like their job. But your opinion is very important. Not only for me, but for everyone. Good comments makes us happy to continue. Bad comments show us a way to change. Is that simple.
The money comes with great works. And I don't think I have a good one for now. Not yet. But I'm trying to improve.
Someday when I'd think I'm satisfied with my work, that will be the day that everything is over. Because drawing means growing and improving day after day.
I received more than I would expect with this illustration. It gave me a job (matte painter in a animation), it gave me a place in the Cgtalk gallery (award winner) and it gave a lot headache.
But I do not expect to lose your, and maybe, my own, respect simply because of an unfortuned words.
I'm really sorry.
Next time I'll promise, I'd be more polite and more patient.
Thanks guys
C-ya
PS - I'm sorry for my bad english.
