View Full Version : Maya Render?
Captain 01-11-2003, 03:50 PM Ok, So Im a Lightwaver, and no this is not to pick a fight. When I read about all 3d aps, they talk about having to get render programs for maya, and what not. I really don't understand it. I'm used to lightwave, which has a built in render. Out of the box I hit the render key, and there you go! It renders. And I beleive maya is quite different. Would someone be willing to explain how rendering is handled/done in maya? Just curious ;).

Maya's renderer is slow compared to most other software (for me about 30%-50% slower) and the AA methods in the render globals and in texture settings needs fiddling to get a good render. It has few "presets" that are commonplace in programs like max so you have to know how to dial all these things in yourself. Past that tho, you can produce pretty awesome images out of it too, it just takes more work.
