Hello, i've been using Photoshop for 2 weeks now, and this is my first attempt at a full 2d matte painting.

I've got the whole day to work on it, so hopefully it'll turn out well.

My idea is to use the figurines from Precious Moments.

So here are the first few sketches.

Will be posting updates, please give me feedback along the way :)

I've cleaned up the sketches and got a concept now

My aim is for the final image to be realy realistic

From the threads I've seen on cgtalk, I guess the way to creating a realistic drawing is mainly to draw the image much bigger than it's going to be, so I enlarged the figurine to 300% before adding the details and shading.

So here it is
http://www.inaneasylum.org/users/Photoshag/Default/blues%20complete%202.jpgAt times I went up to 600% zoom

Crossed a major milestone :)
I'm not sure whether I should leave it like that (Painted Feel) or make it more realistic
Got any opinions?

Going to start on the dog

Dog finished! :scream:

I think I'm going to rework it though, I want a more realistic feel to the fur

Wow, really nice color and lighting. I like it more all the time. I also really like the style.

One question though: you refer to the character as a boy, but he has a bow in his hair? People are probably just going to assume it's a girl.

Yup my sister said that too, so it's probably gonna be a girl i guess, or maybe somewhere in between.

I'm stuck
Spent 3 hours reworking the dog but the fur still looks weird, anyone got tips on how to make his fur more realistic?

The fur looks perfect.
You might want to post a scaled-down version of these updates, so they would be easier to look at.

This is starting to look truly awesome. Your shading and lighting skills are of a very high standard.

Very much looking forward to some updates!:)

Should I leave the fur and hair this way or make it more realistic?
Right now both look like plastic, I'm thinking of making it look like real hair, but I don;t know how to achieve this. Help!
