Hey guys, I am new to the forum, and it is good to be here. I started working on this space ship in Max 7 over the weekend, though i think there are still lots of work that needs to be done, but I will be very glad to hear your critiques. One note though, this ship outline was built in two days, so it is still in the begining phase, I hope to normal map it, then texture it. Thanks guys.

Hello peichunyu,

that is a tremendous amount of detail for a "little" start as you see it. I can't see issues in the modelling process (being no expert with technical modelling that is no guarantee that there are none ;-) ). Your spacecraft is like one of those very hairy dogs which dont have back or front - in other words I'd like to have a little help in distinguishing where the front is (my guess is the right side because those planes could be cockpitwindows).

Apart from that very personal attitude I cant give any useful comments right now, but I will look back in again to see its progress.

Have fun creating.

Really impressive start !

Oops, same thing here

I don't see anything wrong in your modelling. The only thing that I don't understand, that's the gears on the left. Doesn't sound logical to me.

Waiting for the next update :)

thanks guys for the feedback, I will put up more images later, the parts on the ship still need some work. I pretty much sketched it up in Max additively, and now it is time for subtraction. The gears on the left side was ment to support a side gun, but I havn't gotten around to it yet. The roundness of the ship though is because I built the ship for a programmer to put into the engine he has been working on, and the collision box is...well..a circle :). But I'd like some suggestion on what to do to get out of the "circle". I will continue to work on it soon, once again thanks guys.

What is the purpose of this ship? What will its duties be? Is it part of a fleet? Is it piloted by humans? How do they get in? How big is the ship?

While the ship looks good, there's not much there that says what purpose the ship has.

:D I enjoyed the reply, yes indeed, the concept of the ship in my mind before I started it was a ship of an explorer or a bounty hunter. Small, fast manauvering, and equipped with big guns for better protection. With that idea in mind I gave it 6 lights, and heavey engines. Though I really need to post more images to show that, but I am in class :P have time issues. Thanks alot for this feedback though, I'd like more critiques like this so i can make the ship look better, and make sense at the same time hehehe. I post more images after I get out of class. Thanks

If the ship is going to be in combat, it'll need some armor, or at least implied armor.

You have a lot of exposed components there that'd be easy to hit in a firefight, or if he's exploring then it'll easily get knocked off via debris or other hazards.

But on the artistic design end, you have a lot of detail on the model, with few things to break up that detail and act as a compliment to that detail. There's a big area with no detail on the right, but that looks more unfinished. If you plan to put anything there, how about just a light texture or bump that implies some panels and leave it as that?
