Shadowed_link 06-06-2006, 03:10 AM Hey all,
having a little top view trouble.
In my scene I can't seem to replicate the 2d image i generated in my top view camera in my 'main' camera view which has been set up with the appropriate resolution properties i need.
i.e. (this is from my top view camera)

this is from 'main' camera

The top view is an orthographical camera. Your main camera is showing the perspective of the objects. You can convert your main camera to an orthographical view, but this is probably something you shouldn't do.

As he said, top view shows the orthographic view, which only shows 2 dimensions. The "main" window is the perspective which shows in 3d. So you have succeeded in replicating what you wanted into its 3d form, and if you only wanted an orthographic view, why did you do it in a 3d program insted of something like flash.

why not?
- just go into the 'view' menu on top of the perspective view.
- go to 'camera settings'
- uncheck 'perspective'
it's totally legal to do that

Nothing illegal about it. Not something you'd want in a 3d view though, especially if the camera/objects are animated.

thanks for the comments,
I'll give a quick run down of what it's for.
The animation starts off with a view of a magazine cover with 2d shapes on the cover, then the camera dives down revealing that they are infact 3d shapes and that they seem to go on forever. (I need to create a sense of distance using fog) -my other problem don't know how to do.
etc. etc. so that's why i need both a perfect top view and a perspective view of those shapes.
I was thinking of running an orthographic camera down and then fading in the perspective cam. (using a post program) but if i can do it all in one hit would be great.

You can animate the perspective transition from the image of your ortho to the image of your 3D view with the perspective camera. You can achieve this by animating the transforms of the camera, its focal length, and camera scale.
To recreate the orthographic appearance of your top view in the perspective camera view first in the Transform node of the camera, except Translate Z, make all transform values 0 and in the shape node make, the Focal Length 3500. Then increase the Transform Z and at the same time decrease the Camera Scale in the shape node until you match the top ortho view.
Depending on the scale you your objects, you may also need to adjust/animate the clipping planes.

Ah great, that's the kind of walkthrough i needed.
Thanks heaps emily, really appreciate it. I will give this method a good try.
