Can someone please explaint me what is this for, and How do i go about using it.

As the title say, it's a color information stored in a vertex. You can use it for many purposes (lighting, mask, baked occclusion, ...). This is a example, using it as a mask, the Colorvertex Shader drive 2 textures.
First create a color set for the mesh, paint your color vertex. In the connection editor, connect "object"shape.colorset.colorName to the "cpvSets" shader.Now, the shader can read colorvertex information.
