View Full Version : Too much light in mouth...
PorkpieSamurai 06-05-2006, 02:05 PM hi, im working on the shader for this ghost girl for a film and im using the fast_sss shader in mental ray. i really love the shader and think im almost finnnished the skin but now im trying to shade the teeth and gums with the sss shader using the same lightmap as the body geometry. My problem is that too much light is getting inside the mouth area as you can see. I dont think think this is to do the with the backscatter but i could be wrong,my experiance with the shader is pretty small.
any advice would be really appreciated

I had a similar problem when using that shader. It was caused by a light that had its shadows turned off, as soon as i set it to raytraced all my lighting problems disappeared on the eyes/tongue/gums/teeth which were all using the same lightmap.
Not sure if that will help you, was just something i found out for my scene. Another really important thing is getting the scale of the scatter radii to match your scene, a tutorial i was working through was in cm, and my scene was in mm, so i had stupidly high scatter radii set which completely messed up the scatter effect. (Although the head looks pretty sweet in your pic, only the mouth acting funky)
What kind of lighting setup are you using?
Anyway, hope that helps in someway

Try use Ambion Occlusion pass ,then multiply on it when in compositing.:thumbsup:
