Title: RX-8: Devil Mod {Carbon Drip Edition}
Name: Brandon Acree
Country: USA
Software: 3ds max, Photoshop
I found a really good carbon fiber material and I wanted to see what it would look like on my RX-8. But the decals I had on it before didnt really go with it. So, I decided to add my little spin to it and go the untraveled road for the decal world and do something that was just plain dirty! I really like this style for cars because its not your usual clean "ricer" decals. This would actually be an all out paint job lol. I like to bring to my work that hand crafted and skilled look rather than some crappy decals you can buy online and stick on in an afternoon ya know? Well anyways, Ill stop talkin and see what you think. Hope you all like it!

I like it dood :) I think the modelling is really great, and some of the materials are beautiful, for example that texture design on the side of the car, nicely done!
I do have crits though. I feel the bg doesnt really help to visualize the whole image. I also think that the contact shadows maybe are waay to strong, maybe u shouldve messed a bit more with ur amb occ pass :P It looks a bit too gray and with not too much contrast imo. Still, its a great design, but you can always improve it ^_^ Keep up the great work!
I agree that the shadows could use a bit more work, however this image totally kicks F**KING @$$!!! Man I love how the paint resembles a shadow on the underside of the car, nice touch! The decals are complex and stylish! Man I would love to see designs like this on cars on the road. THis is amazingly cool, keep up the good work!

Dude, if you put those designs onto a real car, it'd look real sweet

The paint job kicks butt! I must agree about the background because your car visually becomes lost in it.can you please share your carbon fibre shader?

Hey thanx everyone for all the comments :) I really appreciate it. As for the background, While I was doing the paint job I kind of envisioned the "carbon fiber" dripping onto the ground and the car sitting in the puddle of it all. The other portion of the bg, just threw that in for the hell of it, lol. I didnt mean for it to be faded but if I made it black, there would be no way to see the shaddows :/ As far as the shader, the map can be found HERE (http://www.smcars.net/forums/textures-materials/8530-carbon-kevlar-fiber-textures.html)at SMCars (http://www.smcars.net/forums/index.php). Im gonna ask them to sticky that post due to all the requests, lol. As for the rest of the shader, its in Max, a ratraced material with 200 specular and 30 gloss and a falloff (frensnal) for the reflect. Pretty simple but I think it looks nice :)
I think that just about answers all the questions lol
Oh yeah, blankoh (http://forums.cgsociety.org/member.php?u=228371), that site SMCars has just about anything you need for making 3d cars. It has the most important element....the prints! lol. HERE (http://www.smcars.net/forums/tutorials/15089-tutorial-sites.html)is a link to one of the posts that has some links to other sites with tutorials. The Munkmotion one is pretty good, slightly different modeling technique than what I use, but I used that to start and went off of it with my own method that I was comfortable with. Thats really the key, just find you own way of doing that you are comfy with. So, just look around that site, find a car you like, find a tutorial with a style you want to persue and go for it! vbmenu_register("postmenu_3608650", true);
