He's Canadian, maybe you need to say it in French?:curious:

Maybe its some kinda moose creature that's really big and drinks lots of mead while he dries his laundry on his antlers. Big ole damp whitey-tighties with skid marks shining in the day sun as he's got his cloven feet propped up on the porch of his cabin in the woods with a pipe and a pint.

Naaa, its probably just some south american pack animal kinda creature....

Thanks, I got Paul Mikulecky's "Model & Rig" in a day in LW from a friend for the holidays. I plan on getting my rigging finally down in LW so I can get some of my models rigged better than they are now and make the animation easier! *mark dayplanner-watch model&rig* Yeah, like a read that thing.....hehe...
Hey what's up with you website? Couldn't get it...last time I looked at it was over a year ago.

I have two concepts [not sure on which one to proceed with, but I will sketch both]...

------------------------------------------------------
[1] Ragadast the Brown, one of the great Istari, created a race after the destruction of One Ring. With his vast knowledge of fauna, he birthed a race known as Vendiir...a quiet and peaceful farming race which appear to be half deer, half man. Intelligent, powerful and slim, with thick collars of Indian red coloured pelt, beneath a grand rack of antlers. Their hands knarled, thick of callouse from the tools of farming. Even with their advanced intelligence, they remain humble and stick to the land, leading a simple life. It is said the Vendiir reside on the edge of the Shire and remain recluse to the Hobbits. Tales tell of Vendiir staving off threats to the Hobbits before the evil can reach the Shire.
------------------------------------------------------
[2] The Munro, a race created by Tulkas the Valar to ammuse him with contests of strength. A nomadic race that has been witnessed in the steep foothills and highlands of Middle Earth to the peaks of the Misty Mountain itself. A hearty and powerhouse of a creature with average intelligence, standing 8 feet tall, the Munro appear to be some kind of kilted, Bison-Bear-Man hybrid, bred purely for stalwartness. The Munro are a peaceful race until provoked, then with the might of 100 men the toss their hammers into battle, weilding large Claymores halving enemies in a blink of an eye.
------------------------------------------------------

Moose, Deer whatever!! Hey I got pretty close. I was looking at doing something with Bear in it but it kept looking like a freakin' Ewok! So its either a Moosey looking thing or a Big Horney Ewok in a skirt....better watch out for Sheep Factory might get him excited!

Here is a first pass sketch of the Vendiir.

I am uncertain if this is the direction I want to take...unsure of what kind of style I want to mold the creature in...real-world? stylized with augmented proportions? anime influenced? I don't know at this point and it will take a bit more sketching to figure it out...I should give my other idea a chance and sketch the Munro too...I only wish the zoo here in Seattle was open...I need to go find some kind of petting zoo...

As far as the sketch goes, I used an ink brush pen so I would not get too tied down to details. Eventually the Vendiir will be clothed modestly......maybe make it an elder or some other heirarchal figure of the clan...with trinkets adorning him, or should I do a her?...hmm...

May i suggest a fiercer weapon to him though , with the current one he looks like the mop lady. he needs and Axe :)

I really like the concept but just a point on his anatomy. Even though the tail adds alot of character now that he is a biped does he sit on his bum like a human ? I think the tail might get in the way. I know its kind of nit-picky but its the only thing about the concept I could pick at all . :applause:

BlueCougar
01-14-2003, 03:00 AM
Just a comment on the tail...if done right it will work. Remember James P. Sullivan in Monsters Inc?(The big blue furry one) He had a tail and sat down just fine....

bentllama
01-14-2003, 07:39 AM
...but without a tail, how will people know he is happy?

KingMob
01-14-2003, 07:43 AM
see? now THAT is logic at work.

how will he sit? bah...

happiness is much important than sitting...besides he can use his tail as a chair!

Found the animation thread with the link....I'll have to keep an eye out for both. Did you try Lluis Llobera's Maya character rig on the troll he put in the 10 sec files? Heard some good comments about it. I'll keep a look out this weekend for more on the "moose".

Instead of modelling the "Vendiir" [or the moose as bluecougar here calls it]...I am modelling the Munro...here is the character's backstory...

------------------------------------------------------
The Munro, a race created by Tulkas the Valar to amuse him with contests of strength.
------------------------------------------------------

the reason I am not modelling the Vendiir is due to the animation challenge...I am going to do an animation with this character, so I thought why not kill 2 birds with one stone...the only drawback is that I an modelling this creature to roughly fit an existing skeleton/rig [though I am sure I will vastly change the proportions :)]

without further procrastination [hey work has been keeping me busy ;)] here is the first pass at ROUGH geometry, minus the head, kilt, weapon, etc...

noted changes:

I am changing the feet [I hate them right now], changing the hands a bit to make em meatier...gonna make him more sturdy and have a higher body fat index...oh, and nipples too...

Nice start bentlama...........I like the overall promised size and girth. I hope you can find a way to fit this beast as is with your existing rig, at least for the most part.:)

Also the storyline you provided is a good one,it sounds like it belongs in Middle Earth. An animation sounds fun and interesting as well. I am looking forward to your progress. Here's to you finding that extra time to get it done. :)

here is an update of sorts. I finally found some time to do some more modelling this weekend. gonna have to model like a freak on acid to get this done on time for the deadline of the challenge. :) work deadlines, and my personal life has kept me busy lately...but better late than never right? :)

anyway...comments and crits welcome...

I am still very uncertain of what dirstion i will take the head in and what garb he will be wearing...gonna have to sketch a bit to figure that out...maybe I will just go watch 13th warrior for some inspiration while I sketch. :)

expect another update this evening if not this weekend... :)
