Hi there!
I can't give you a solid suggestion for the BG, but maybe I can shove you around enough to give you inspiration...
When I look at this picture, I see a sad robot in a bunny suit. I don't know if you ment to make him sad (it's definately a "him"!), but he looks sad to me.
So what's he sad about?
Either, it's a robot who wants to be natural (the old Pinnochio, Blade Runner, AI thing), and I think the background should show something like a hi-tech robot world gone too far. Your robot is the one who wants out, who wants to be natural. And of course he's all alone on his secret quest... If the other robots found out, they'd hunt him down and DESINTEGRATE HIM for FAULTY BEHAVIOUR! :)
OR!
He's sad, because he REALLY a bunny, who - like the rest of nature - is slowly being transformed into modern hi-tech crap! I'm thinking Neverending Story here - the way their Fantasia is being absorbed by THE NOTHING, your natural world is being absorbed by THE HIGHTECH PHENOMENON THINGY, everything turning into metal and sci-fi gadgets - dead objects... Do that, and I think it'll be a strong statement!
Hope this gibberish helps! ;)
Cheers,
- jonas

Maybe you can have some REAL bunnies who don't want to play with him, because they can tell he's not real...
