View Full Version : First woman head (yup, another head :D)
DDrake 01-11-2003, 12:39 AM Hi people!
This is my first approach to a realistic human head. I really need some expert advice at this point. 3DSMax and photoshop all the way.

Well, I wouldn't call myself an expert exactly... but it looks like you're going pretty good so far! The skin tone you've got going seems good, and the start of your texture is too, I like the freckles. The proportions of the head are good, the shape of the chin and cheeks is good too.
The main problems I'm seeing, is that there's something really odd about the shape of her eyes, I can't quite pin it down... also, her nose seems to be not quite stuck on her face at the end, like it sprouts too far out to the front-- the wings on the sides blend more smoothly into the cheeks, instead of being so separate. Also, you've got the problem everyone has when they start out with mouths-- the corners of the mouth stick out instead of folding inwards, giving her the look that she's got wax lips stuck to her face. Post a wire, and we can help sort these things out! :D

Hi!
Thanks for your reply Gnarly :D I think i see the problem on the wings of the nose :D i´ll take a look at more reference pictures. The main problem is that i have been modelling and studying how a face is for too much hours :P and now i need a break.
About the eyes, i know that there is something strange on the shape, but i can´t find it :( maybe the size? help-me
About what you told me of the mouth, sorry, i can´t understand clearly what you are saying :D my english is limited :D Could you explain with a draw or similar? I´d really appreciate that.
I´m posting this image so you can see how the mesh is constructed.
Thanks again!

Oops.. will try to be more careful about my English, I forget sometimes that not everyone here understands it well, and don't speak clearly enough.
The nose-- In the front view, the nose should never fold around behind itself. You should be able to see the sides of it blending down into the cheeks. See how it seems to start thin at the top, get wider in the middle, and pinch in at the end? Make it keep getting wider instead. I've drawn in some yellow lines to sortof sugget what I mean.
The eyes-- in the front view it's very clear that the eyes aren't centered. Fixing that will probably help the way they look a lot. Move the eyeballs themselves out to the sides a little, and then fix the eyelids again to line up. Keep in mind the human head is 5 eyes wide, this one might be too narrow.
The lips-- I'm not sure how else to explain... they look like they're ON the face instead of part of it.
It's hard to tell much about your mesh with it subdivided-- it looks pretty solid, but to know what you've done with the corners of the mouth we might need to see it before smoothing maybe?
*edit* might help if I posted the picture, eh? http://www.logrhythms.com/Leah/DDrakepic.jpg
