View Full Version : Marking Menu: add another one (D+LMB)?
Hi guys
I'm trying to personalize my Maya as much as I can but I need your help. For example, I would like to create a marking menu for various display stuff and map it to "d + LMB". I know, I can build my markingmenu in Preference window but I can't map it to my "d+LMB". Any idea?
I've no problem to edit existing stuff (I've already personalized a lot of scripts in C:\Program Files\Alias\Maya7.0\scripts) but I can't find a way to create new mm.
Thanks

is the D key used as a hotkey already?
normally you just create the marking menu and make it available in the hotkey manager where you assign to any hotkey.
no reason u should not be able to have it on d+lmb or even D+lmb

D is default hotkey for changing Pivot position. :)
Anyway, Hotkey Editor don't allow me to set my mouse buttons, only keyboard. :hmm:

well you would have to lose the insert pivot command on d....or use D (shift + d)
hotkeymanager allows you to overide existing commands if you want. First create your marking menu...allow it to be edited in the hotkeymanager....then assign a hotkey to it in the hotkemanager. By default all marking menus are executed with the key+LMB
if your clever you can take the code of the q key and hack it so you can have a hotkey and a marking menu on the same key.
-that would not have functionality on the d key because of the insert pivot needs d to be held

Thanks, I think that I've got how it works. :)
But it seems that Hotkey Editor allow me to setup only LMB, how about RMB? It would be nice if I can use both LMB and RMB since there aren't much free space on my keyboard. :D
Btw, do you know if there are way to setup Ctrl key too? By default it disable all hotkeys but I can't find it in Hotkey Editor.

its possible to have middle mouse mapped to execute a marking menu...in fact I have a few already. I am batch rendering for the next couple of days so wont be able to help you, but all of the information can be found via search (i have usually posted in these threads). I think it is replacing the flag -mm 1 with -mm 2 in the hotkey editor (of the marking menu)
I suspect its possible to have RMB in a similar fashion as using MMB...but you will have to find that out yourself.
ctrl is considered a Modifier key because it influences a lot of active tools. I recommend not changing that (would be complicated to change it) because it would decrease functionality.
Then again...if you hack the code that creates the MM from ctrl+RMB you would have what you want. I dont use this particular marking menu because i find it bloated and have split most of the commands in to several smallers menus.
If you want efficiency....learn to create MM for differant modes, context sensitive, panel sensitive, tool sensitive, and allow them for both LMB and MMB with the same hotkey. Again...all of that information can be found via the search function (been posted several times)
