First off I hope you all are having a great New Year so far, the mods, leonard and myself has been proven to be busy already :).

Second we're very sorry for the delay, but we've been trying to clear the table with articles such as the ChubbChubbs and other projects on the go. Ok with that said let's get to what you've all been waiting for.

Welcome to our 2nd Animation WIP challenge...

This month's Challenge is entitled "Exploring Middle Earth"

- Exploring Middle Earth -
Based on the huge success and popularity of "The Two Towers", we had a unanimous decision of a L.o.T.R theme. This month you are required to animate 1 of 4 scenarios.

Scenarios.

[1] Character entering a dark corridor/cave with weapon drawn awaiting a surprise from the dark [please use this syntax: In the dark]
[2] A character finding the “one ring” and reacting to his discovery [please use this syntax: The One Ring]
[3] Show a feat of elven dexterity , [IE: legolas jumping on the horse or walking on snow, but of course not those][please use this syntax: Elven Dexterity]
[4] a character meeting death from an attack [animator can setup the death however he/she pleases] [please use this syntax: Death Scene]

Here's what stated as the final rules for the Exploring Middle Earth Challenge

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) no textures please, use flat colors, the focus is animation
2) you are required to build your own rig, try not to use a rig that's not your own, this is why the challenges will help you in that area.
3) All animations should be 320x240 or less, please no bigger
4) quicktime with sorenson 3 a must (sorenson 3 codec should be free within the quicktime install)
5) please use a static camera
6) your animations can be up to 15 seconds maximum
7) sectional geometry is a must, (this will level the playing field if you choose to use a high or low poly model, and it will also eliminate the need for envelopes)
8) default 3pt lighting is a must, only the key light needs to cast a shadow
9) no audio should be used in your animations
10) basic geometry (optional)
11) blendshapes/morph targets are allowed this round
12) To avoid server bandwith issues please keep your test animations below the 150K anything above this is problematic (this of course applies only to those people that will be uploading their WIP to our servers)

==============================================
The Challenge starts Jan 10th, 2003 and will run until

Feb 28th, 2003 Midnight GMT Please visit this link to obtain GMT information http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/custom.html?continent=&sort=1 [towards the bottom]
==============================================

additional notes:

3D
- Please provide some form of a storyboard, doodles are fine.

Remember that this is a WIP challenge, so it is a requirement to show the steps you used, and

help out as much as you can, of course you're not obligated to, but it will help those that need it

greatly.

There are however some restrictions to prevent unnecessary issues:

Animations cannot be uploaded at this time to the new challenge site, so you must use the forum,

If you wish to show a larger animation do so by linking it from your site.
Keep in mind filesizes. . .this is to help those people with slow connections.
