It looks real nice...Area lights would make it look better for sure...:D That would give you the "wrap around" shadow. Keep working on it, it looks cool :wip:
What package are you using? How long did it take to render?

I'm using max 4.2 with the standard renderer, and the render took about 2 minutes (yes, faster than finalrender ;) )
This is the final scene by now, only some changes on the plants and the lights, I will try to add more dirt and noise to the floor textures later.
thanks!

You're using the scanline renderer.... WOW! That is good then! Ok....if final render is too slow for you try using Vray..The beta is out there somewhere...sorry I cant remember what the site is called..:( .
Keep up the good work..

very nice...
i'd say that you need a crisper bump on the ground tiles and something to make the columns 'stick' to the ground, muck, shadows, etc...

You are right, I will include this in the process of "noisement"
thank you

Area lights....imagine that you have a plane and all it's surface casts light. Still with me? Max can't do that, so you have to create multiple spotlights in a square formation to make the area lights.
If you have any question just say :)

Hum.... yes it could be nice, in this case I've used a dome of omni lights instead of a simulation of area light (plus the directional for the sun and more omnis behind the columns).

Use the Area light technic for the sun also. This way you can get the right sun casting :)

I've tried something like an area light but the results are blurry shadows on the area where direct sunlight brights... I think direct spanish sunlight produces sharper shadows :) Anyway I'm still trying different lighting setups.
