So, a friend and I are working through a certain problem:
We need to create an avalanche, without it looking like flowing plastic. We've gone over a couple of options, and suggestions would be nice. Also, we are running on a processing budget (who isn't?), and we don't have years to render.
1st option we thought about: We were taking a look at Afterburn's shaders for particle simulations. We can't seem to get it looking like snow, it remains cloudlike. Afterburn's shaders seem to be designed mostly for gaseous effects.
2nd: We were also thinking about animating a mesh to move like an avalanche, taking into account movement and adding secondary particle emmisions scattered throughout and near the front of the tempest.
So, your thoughts either on our own ideas and concepts, or bring up your own. Also, if you have suggestions on ways to implement these concepts, feel free to respond.
We are always looking for excellent effects shaders, so if you have ideas or know of a really nice snow shader, respond.
