View Full Version : The best way to comp characters into a scene...
HBlaauw 03-11-2002, 06:18 PM Howdy,
Say you've got a scene built in max, and you
want to merge 2-3 rigged biped characters into
that scene....what's the best way to go about it?
Would you group your entire scene and merge it
with the characters or would you import your bipeds
into your environment scene?
What's the best way of doing this....?
Thanks

I prefer to xref the set into the character file. If anything objects the set needs to interact with the characters, you'll need to merge those in. Since xrefs merely 'point to' a scene rather than actually including the data, it can be a real memory (and file size) saver.
I would just merge being carefull to select the complete character and all of the related biped bones and dummies (show subtree, select sub for ex). Linking the COM object to a new dummy can help to quickly reposition the biped hierarchy, but this approach has it own downfalls, which I usually 'fix' with moflow and save active segment.
Another way would be to create new biped and load SAVED figure files and motion data onto the new bipeds.
I have not used Xref's, but if my scene where to grow beyond about 60 Mb's I would exercise that option.
