Maybe someone can explain whats happening here:

I have a mayascene, lots of textures, lots of shaders.

If I set the texture resolution for all filetextures quite low, the rendering starts after a few seconds and rendering needs about one minute. So the whole rendering needs about 1min30sec.

Now I simply replace the lowres textures with hires textures and the translation time increases up to about 25min. Rendertime is only a few secons more than withlowres textures, about 2min.

I have no idea why that happens, the only difference is that I use hires textures instead of lowres textures.

It doesnt make a big difference if I use map files or not.

Any ideas?

Are you sure it's the translation time that extends, or is it the mr preprocessing time?

What's the actual resolution you've been using for the texture? If you're using filtering on your textures the mipmap generation might take some time on highres stuff. I assume you already tried the -p flag with the map files? Do the textures need to be pulled from a network location? Also, are you using satellites by any chance?

Just discovered that every single file is copied to the local temp dir as an iff - file. Doesnt matter if it is already an .map file or not.

And if we have 2 or 3 gig of textures I now understand why it takes so long.

But I dont understand whats happenig here. It is definitly the translation process because it occurs before rendering and during translation to .mi files too. The standalone starts without any delay.
