View Full Version : Vehicle WIP: Car (again...)
Peoples 01-10-2003, 05:13 PM Well - my car project has been lying beneath my workloads for a while - and since I had some time today I started once again to model car with cinema. As some of you might remember - we had a thread about carmodelling here some months ago. My attempts at that thread make me cry. So instead of boxmodeling I tried point/polymodeling this time. But when you choose that road and make all the panels separate - its *very* difficult to get the seams match....Well - anyway, here's a quick wiprender for you:

when trying to get seams to match with poly by poly i will some times start with points that are adjacent to the new panel i want to create...if that makes sense...
but good work one the less

NO comments??........well - here we go again...
Im just modeling from a picture in my head - the goal is semi-realistic, aggressive and compact car - I might have to add some length though......slowly gettin there but cinema is not the best app to build cars with - as everyone might agree...:arteest:

It looks like a great Match Box car to me. I guess that would be pretty semi-realistic for ya.
Looks great though. I like the headlights.

Looking good, Peoples. :buttrock: So how *did* you get the seams to match? What I ended up doing in my car model was to build the side panels as a single mesh and then go back and separate them later. Worked much better than trying to model them separate from the get-go.

wow, that's actually quite good, i made a car using box modelling before, wasnt convinced that that was really the best way, then i tried poly modelling but failed miserably, i can never get it to work on 3 dimensions, i can draw a side profile then i get stuck.. any tips?
Thats coming along nicely peoples  ........looks almost Audi, ish.

cars and humans are two things I find rediculously hard to model, I screw up every time, and that annoys me :annoyed:
this however is a very good start, keep at it
hopefully I'll find a way to model cars one day :D

Hi guys!
Yes - the wheels are supposed to be a bit like audish.. I'm going to change the rear part of the car - I don't like it as it is now, maybe a pick-up or something..
I got the seams match pretty good by copying the ponits on the edge to a new poly-object and then edge extruded them the same amount as the other parts inwards. Sometimes I needed to adjust the shape manually though - which is a pain in the ass always. I'm still having trouble with the windows - have to figure out something. But as always - I'll keep you posted as I progress. CYa....

Looks nice so far!
The only thing I would like to see is more curvature on the sides. They look a little flat.
Keep up the good work!

Decided to go on with the Pick-up idea - what's your opinion folks, or :thumbsdow ? Should I keep going w/ the sedan or is the pick-up better?

Hrm . . that is cool. Do both! Heh. I stil think you need to flair out the sides.

probably sounds wierd....but why can't you have a large chrome engine in the pickup part....kinda hot rod style.
either way good going on a tough subject matter bud....keep it up...wanna see the results.

A small update - still have to model the front bumper and make some details. The windscreen looks like its not smooth if you lookat the reflection. I made it with adding points and bridging em but its hard to get them lined up smoothly..

seems like cars w/ cinema is top trendy here... heh .... we'll here's my recent update on this little project of mine. I still find cars ridiculosly hard to model (can't even spell that...). Still lacks a ton but spank me w/ some feedback please??

Hi,
cars really ARE dificult to model, but with some patience it's not impossible at all.
I'm modeling my first car whenever I have some spare time and I think it's going pretty well. There's no part of the car that I think I can do when I start, but some hours later I find myself looking at a complete good looking part!
In my opinion, the key is in the details. You may not have the door or another panel exactly matching the real one, but if it has the details, you'll get away with a nice review!
The seams between the different panels should be perfect, those little rubbers around the windows must be there, the windshield cleaners, etc, etc.
Fill your models with detail and cheat in everywhere that won't be seen. Focus your energy where it will be needed.

I posted a thread about some weird GI behaviour - it was this scene I was referring to. As I was told - GI doesn't need a luminous channel to work - the color does the job too, with less intensity..Here's my latest render of this pickup. I'm getting a bit tired of this - I think this is near the end although it lacks a lot.

Sorry for posting in that late. You already made a lot of progress in this thread. Nice to see your modeling skills grow. One thing i don't like about this. The total design of the car (my opinion) is bad. Try something new, some different style of a car. Maybe - maybe not.
