The best thing to do is google with the title "Making games" or "Video Game making" and the the articles.
Video games are now like motion pictures. Most of us know that one man cannot create a blockbuster movie. Anyhow, games these days are pretty similar. Evan with a very simple 2d game like pac-man or 1 level of mario will be time consuming project for a one man'ned dude, no matter how good you are.
So, by judging the content of your thread, I assume you are a beginner in this field. There are many process that takes place during the making of video game. From the guy who comes up with the ideas (Game Designer) to the team who takes the idea and bring it alive visually (Game artist) to the team who makes these stuff work (Game Programmers). On top of that, these guys need gadgets and the latest technology so there must be a funder dude.
Anyways, coming back to your thread, the people who usually say "I have an idea" are the Game Designers. They are the ones who control how the game turns out. They are the ones who ensure their ideas is turning out well and is working as well as intertaining the player. They are in the same position as the Film Director, therefore, you could research game designers on the net.
Then when you get promesing idea of what the game designer does, then you could do a Game Design degree or diploma. From there, people aka studios will look at you, not that they will take your ideas into account but they will look at you, gaze at you. Forget being looked at if you didn't do your homework.
From my knowledge, you can't jump straight to Designing position/job without inside experience, so you have to get that position from back door, that is either being a game artist or other development positions, then after couple of years you will have a chance of being a designer.
I think I went little off topic if not off topic :) so....
... I'm out (runs...)
Researches is key here and do it before u get into it. Developing a game is not for everyone. It is for those with extreme management skills, clear vision of the game, and a keen imagination. Ideas are one thing but translating them on paper is another.
Also get ready to write a few hundred pages of text depicting the game's every detail. This of course is dependent on the type of game. For example I am developing a new world and new worlds require more details then say "This happened in Rome." My world is quite complex and everyone will be blown away on what they will see.
So I wish u luck man. It’s a though thing to but if u have fun like me then u gonna make it.
note: Just remember that good games are designed by people like u and me who have the imagination to do it right and with passion.
