HI there Vivec,

I think the initial "in deep thought" pose would work better if you had the left hand behind his right elbow, and his right hand supporting his chin (having the index and thumb forming an L shape, try acting it out). Hold this pose a bit longer and definitely have 1-2 frame eye darts (subtly though) as opposed to him scanning the board like you have now. I think you can exaggerate the brow animation alot more when he's figured out his move. Before making his move, maybe have him have a quick glance (possibly even point his index like he's saying "i've got it") at his opponent before picking up the checker piece? I also think the body animation can be alot more subtle when he's actually moving the checker piece, keep the body pretty much in the same pose and just use his right arm to do the move. I think this will convey a "i've got you now but i'm still cool and calm" feeling.

Hope it helps! :)

It's looking better! I like the camera change. I've also noticed you smoothed out the animation abit? It looked kinda poppy before. That said i still think the animation is abit too "flowy". Could do with abit more snappiness i feel (not to be confused with poppiness heheh).

Keep it up man :)

I think is his right hand after he places the checker, its too "floppy" I'll hold the pose for longer and cut out the "waving"

thanks

Hey! I think this is coming along real nicely. Few things i would change:

- His right shoulder seems to pop out abit too much while putting the checker piece down so that's a lil jarring.
- make the blinking (after he puts the piece down) faster. In this case I'm guessing he's excited that he's made his move so the blinking will be faster. Try 2 frames close 1 frame open and then ease out by about 6 frames.
- Have his left hand wrap around his elbow faster as he leans back into the chair.
- his eye movement is generally too slow throughout ...i'd make his eyes "dart" rather than "scan". Try 2 frame darting.

I like how he pauses after the move! Pretty nice acting there. :)

Hey Vivec. I agree with everything Peter said. I was about to mention the "slamming" of the checker piece and the part where Lowman folds his arms, but I saw he already brought it up. Keep it up Vivec, you're doing well. :D

Thanks for your replys and crit,

Ive decided to change the shot a bit, I was talking to a freind and decided that instead of him just taking one peice hes gonna take the whole board. and be realy cocky about it. after that he'll sit back all convident and full of himself, then his oponant's gonna slam his fist down(you only see the hand) then smack the peices of the board. scaring the main character,

Ill have my 1st blocking sometime tomorrow, figure if Im gonna have this in my reel may as well make a small story out of it, PLUS I can work through a whole series of emotion.

Id like to hear what you think of the idea

thanks

Pretty good idea i think! Lots of room to play with acting wise. I think the first step will be getting a really solid blocking pass done otherwise it might get quite messy :)

Hi again Chris,

I think the animation is looking better than before but there's still some jerky/poppy movements in his arm. Mostly when he has his arm up and also after he does his winning move and lifts his arm off the checker piece. I think checking the arcs and smoothing out the curves should fix that?

In terms of acting I think you can really push it more. He could be really smug when he sees the move on the board. Have his eyes slowly widening as he sees all the moves he could make. Then maybe have him looking up at his opponent and going like "i've gotcha now!". Then just before his last move he glances up and gives a wry smile. I think this would contrast really nicely when he goes all scaredy as the hand slams down. I like the reaction he has! Oh you gonna animate those checker pieces as the hand slams? That would be a nice touch :)

Cheers
