View Full Version : 35mm Transfer Costs
amv256 05-30-2006, 08:55 PM I'm working on an animated short that will run between 4-7 minutes. Roughly how much can I expect to pay to transfer something this short to 35mm? I always hear about how incredibly expensive this process is, but for something this short, does that still apply? Do such short films get off easier? :)
Thanks!

Sure enough I was able to get some answers via Google first. :)
First of all, my source footage is 2048x871.
According to DVFilm.com, $350/min is their rate to transfer NTSC/PAL to 35mm. I've got film-resolution data here, though, which I believe falls into their HD-to-film transfer process, which costs $450/min.
So I'm looking at almost $500 * number_of_minutes here for a single reel. It's not a deal-breaker, but that IS very expensive. :) Does this sound reasonable to anyoen with experience doing this? Am I likely to find better deals elsewhere or does this sound pretty standard?

Hi
Do it in India. It has the same state of art recorders like Arri Laser and world class lab to process the negs. It should not cost you more than 320 US$ / min including the raw stock, processing and maybe one print. I used to do at Prasad's. www.efxmagic.com (http://www.efxmagic.com)
