Here is an image modeled with 3dsmax with shag-hair, rendered in Brazil with lots of photoshop work.

I am interested in some specific feedback. Does the lion look fearce, proud, dignified, sleepy, hungry or other. Please give me your opinion.

this image looks great but the lion's face looks like a "human" face ....

if you look at this one ...

Wow, I love the lighting and the colors.
His face has some touch of a hyena, but I can't really say way. Maybe those reddish lines and marks have got to do with it.

I guess you had to convert those hairs to geometry, must have been millions. How long did it take to render in Brazil?

Thanks for the feedback.

Render took about 4 hours and then I spent another 5 or 6 hours in photoshop painting in some more hair detail and fixing transition areas. I don't need to animate this, only need a still so the photoshop work was the faster choice, although I may go back for a second pass of the 3D version.

What expression do you think he has. I am really trying to see what people think. Is he going to eat you or is he look proud, etc. Emotion is a tricky subject. I am going for a specific emotion but I don't want to say just yet until I get some more feedback.

I'll post some wireframes and progress so you can see the process. I took the photoshop route to handle any 3D errors.
But the model and textureing work were all 3D.

It looks like if it was waiting for something, or afraid of something. It's static and almost unexpresive. The composition of the pic is telling the same thing... Very static: a front view of a lion placed in the midle of the image...
the_real_cabal posted an image where the lion is in a more menacing pose (its face is unexpresive, as it is in your lion, but the pose is transmiting an attitude... I think).

Well, this is my opinion and of course It's only what I see, so may be others will see something different.

Anyway, you did a nice work.

I think it looks realy good...but I do have a few comments.

I think the muzzle of the lion is too thin, which gives him the humanistic look....also the partially open mouth makes him look a little drugged IMO.

Keep at it!
