View Full Version : Quidam
bugzilla 05-30-2006, 05:00 PM I just saw this review of the character generation program Quidam. Here's the webpage
http://n-sided.com/
It looks like you can easily create an infinite number of different human characters and import them into LW. That's what I want, but I want to know if anyone has hands on knowledge on importing the characters from Quidam into LW and animating them? I've had problems in the past with programs like this because the characters come in as high polygon and I model and animate in subpatches so I can set the resolution in Layout low enough to animate several characters at once.
Anyone know if Quidam is good for this?

Demo version is 116 MB. Enaugh for me to be suspicios about this prog. And it seems overpriced for a modeling aplication

as they are o poly but photo real
and there's a demo one for you to try out too.

Hi guys,
I'm also very interested in Quidam but do not have the time to really test it.
Is it like MakeHuman..? (looks like it to me)

it is rather an old poser 4 without the animation module and with magnets and morph targets. Nothing really spectacular apparently.

I tried the Demo about a month ago. I was really impressed with its modeling tools for a program that cam out of nowhere.
It has an easy to adjust paint brush modeler with easy falloff adjustment.
Its definately NOT Poser as Poser doesn't model via poly, vertice, or surface selection like you can in Quidam. Keep in mind the program is said to export to LIghtwave with bones. I personaly would have liked it to import my models to edit and rig then exort to Lightwave.
I don't know if they have added that feature. If they do, I would consider buying it,

Plug-in « QUIDAM to Lightwave »
Lets users of Lightwave import directly the exported file from QUIDAM (via the native LWS/LWO format).
Recover the model, texture (UV), the animation skeleton with its bones and influence/skinning
Compatible with Lightwave 5 or above
Import 3D:
Visualization and retouching models in OBJ format by simple drag and drop.
Exports 3D:
Basic format (only geometry): OBJ.
Format with skeleton and skinning for animation: X (Microsoft DirectX), LWO/LWS (Lightwave), QDM (proprietary format N-Sided).
Import Plug ins QDM available for 3DS MAX, Maya, Cinema 4D and Carrara.

The LW plugin is worded a little odd. Import from Lightwave native to Quidam would be prefered. As I read it, it will import OBJ and then export Lightwave.
I was interested until I saw their price system which includes the Standard and Studio Editions. Nowhere that I could find is the difference between the two packages mentioned.
See Pricing LINK (http://www.n-sided.com/specialoffer_en.htm)

I think the difference is : with Studio you get Quidam plus all the 7 plugins....
With Quidam you get just the program alone. In this case you can pick the plugin you want.
