hey all!

is there a way to align an object to a face of a polygon mesh. The maya feature of this is the best I'v seen, max is also cool. Cant seem to find it in XSI though

Constrain > Object to Cluster, then play with the Tangency and/or Normal settings. You can remove the constraint if you don't need to keep it active.
