Title: "somerset free": cover for comic book project
Name: Francis Tsai
Country: USA
Software:

I am working on a short comic book story as part of a three artist anthology book some friends of mine and I are putting together. This illustration was created as the cover art for my portion of the book. The main character is named Somerset Free. I incorporated an earlier environment concept sketch as the background here.

Super work Francis! She's great! Nice colour work. Somerset Free sounds like a breakaway group of freedom fighters from the Southwest of England! :)

(I used to live in the county of Somerset...)

Lovely style! I really like the look of the character, I'd most certainly pick this up if it were a cover on a shelf and have a further perusal! The keychain hanging off the sword really speak volumes about the sort of character she is too.

wow, very nice work!!! the face and hair seem a bit flat to me though, maybe add some highlights and darker shades to it to make it pop

This is Oustanding work. I love the twisted element you've portrayed here. What is the title of your Comic Book, i am curious to check it out? I myself am a independent comic artist, and really dig this kinda stuff.

Peace out for now, lookin' forward to more of your work.

You comix style is really impressive and as I remember I have been amazed by your art many times before as I am now.

Only thing I am not sure at this picture is her face. Everything other on this picture (include her body) has very precise and soft gradient of shadows and highlights, but on the face there isn't any. It rather looks unfinished - does it have some special purpose ? :surprised

for me the blood stains are what makes this , nice clean and very slpatter like. one thing is i think is missing is some sheen birght spots on the face in the light side , it looks cool anyway and works

Hi all, thanks for all the replies. Sorry I have not been around to reply or to comment on other peoples' work. Slammed lately....

Aly - thanks man; yeah I googled "Somerset Free" to make sure there wasn't already a character of that name out there, and I got a lot of links for "Somerset Free Press," which I assume is from the same area.

Zephyri - thanks! Hopefully this will someday make it out to those shelves...

Atmospheria - thanks man!

prophecy313 - hm, good point. I will try to address that.

Williamson - thank you; I am still debating on a couple of different title ideas.

robertmekis - right, someone else also noticed this. I think it's just a matter of needing a bit more rendering. I didn't have anything specifically in mind, it just came out this way.

Darkskills - thank you; it's actually a concept sketch I had done a while back for this comic project. Nice thing about digital is being able to re-purpose a lot of things this way.

Bobby - thanks man! I appreciate it.

waheednasir - thanks sir!

Defcombeta - cool, thanks for the input!

Fox-Light - thanks!

LegacyPunk - hehe, thanks!

alfy - thanks, yeah usually it's the rear view mirror but she doesn't have a car.

renderwhite - thanks!

orbits - thanks!

I think I posted the link to this before, but I've been documenting the process of creating the twelve page short story that this art is the cover for. I'm currently massaging the text, which should be done after another pass or two. I probably won't post the pages with all the text; gotta save *something* for the print version! The blog contains w.i.p. shots of a lot of the pages, and some of the concept sketches.

Wow, badass piece. It's a shame I'm only seeing it now. Very well done. I love all the blood on her, it's a nice touch.
