View Full Version : Adding hair (as a texture!)
That Adrian Guy 01-10-2003, 01:26 AM Sorry for the lame question... I'm trying to add hair on to a donkey, and I don't have S&H. Has anyone ever added fur to a model using textures?
I don't think alpha masks and hair planes would work well in this case.

how furry? you can creat the illusion of peachfuz like the hair on a horse using chanlum, but for the main and such spriteplanes are the way to go

What you need is two plugins.
Solid spline and hair dept ....both free.
with hair department you can generate some splines as hair and with solid spline you can render them.Remember to delete the polygon object that Hair dept. generates cause it is usually about million polys.
This is gonna work or ...maybe not but it is free and easy....
Cool Donkey Adrian

:shame: sorry, novice, but i really doubt that this technique is going to work for fur.
i've been trying to do the exact same thing for a goatee on a face and it already takes (without textures, lightning, antialasing, animation) about 30 minutes to render a single frame on a dual G4. and that's only for a goatee!!! to have a furry donkey, i can imagine you will have to multiply the points on the splines with the factor 1000 (at least!!!!)
right now i'm thinking about buying s&h as it seems, there is no other way to have animated hair...
Heres som fury/hairy links..

Just a note on Solidsplines, it has been removed because it is cause huge compatibility issues with R8 and with otehr plugins in R8. Anyone using it, should keep it in 7, cause in R8 your making C4D less stable

bummer!
Either way, I couldn't use the fur plug unless you could comb the hair with it.
I'm just going to use flat textures on the donkey! Hair would be too much of a burden w/o hardcore commercial plug ins.

get it at the bookwarts.de sit posted above, you'll have to pay for it, since Paul is no longer providing the fre version to much of a hassle to either fix or provide support for.

Hair Department doesn't appear to work in r 8. Doesn't even show up in the plug-in menu. Am I missing something?
In fact, HD is the only reason I'm keeping v7 in my computer...

That would be great news!
I copied the HD folder into the C4d Plug-in folder, launched the application, and didn't find it listed in the plug-ins menu where it used to be...
Where did you download your copy of HD from and when? May be I have an old version... No compatibility with v 8 is specified (only v 6 and 7).
Also, I see you are using an Athlon. May be this problem is some mac version thing (I'm using a mac)...
