View Full Version : Maori Head WIP
razilon 05-29-2006, 08:47 AM Hi All,
This is my first head model. The anatomy is roughly based on images I found of Maori warriors with tattoo designs that I drew up myself. This was completely created in Cinema 4D. Let me know what you think. Be harsh if you feel the need.

it looks pretty good, but for some reason, the tattoo looks like black paint on a pumpkin

Yeah, I'm not completely happy with the skin texture. I made use of the chanlum shader within cinema4D, but wasn't sure how to get the best skin look out of it. Any specific suggestions?

I thought this head looked familiar!
I don't know much about the shader you're using, but the skin did strike me as a little bit orange. I'd try making it a bit more brown perhaps. The tattoo seems a bit off to me as well- it seems just a bit too "green." I quickly looked up some photos of maori tattoos, and it looks like they are sort of "lost" in the specular highlights of the face; that is, they attain the same level of whiteness when reflecting strong sources of light as the surrounding skin. This photo illustrates that... http://www.vacationaustralia.net/images/maori.1.jpg and this one does as well, somewhat- http://www.thesprings.co.nz/rotorua/maori.jpg
Looking good so far, man. That face has a lot of character to it.

Looks great. My only problems are that under the eyes needs a little refining and the ears look too big.

The two sets of wrinkles forming below the eye dont seem to match the over age of the person... relax them a bit and give them more definition or remove them completely.. otherwise its a fine model.
