View Full Version : Exporting c4d files for use in other apps? LW, maya etc..
Was wondering if there is a way to export files from cinema for use in other apps, LW and Maya for example? I have no problems bringing files from others into cinema but cant see do get them back out to the others. I was told a while back about a cinema/LW plug and that it was on the maxon site but nogo.
Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated!

Maxon is working on a Filmbox plugin which should do wonders for portability. Hope it doesn't take too long.

Cool, then you could preview the models in QuickTime using the free .fbx plug. There's also a Maya importer/exporter so you'd get access to that app as well.

Exporting the model files shouldn't be a problem. Good ole DXF works in both LW and Maya (4.5). If you're exporting hypernurbs objects, just take them out ot the cage bfore xporting and add the similar "meshsmoothing" effect in the other package I've even done this from c4d to MAX. As to exporting entire scenes...ack! I don't think that's a possibility.

If it's just models you're wanting to export I'd definitely choose .obj over .dxf. Much smaller file size and retains UV data.

Good Call, better format:)
Out of interest, is the native Cinema4D file format a public format ? If so, where can I get hold of the documentation ?
Also, on the subject of obj files - does anyone know if they support hierachical grouping ?

heh, bump.
I wanted to ask about those obj files. I'm trying to get a model with uvw maps from cinema to max, but it's max 4, and that doesn't seem to have obj importing capabilities. Any suggestions?
yeah sorry i was going for a model, had scnes on the brain. maybe its hypernurbs that have been blowing it up..... hmmmm off to check
Caravaggio, theres a free plugin for max for importing obj used it sometime ago when I had to work with max at scholl. Can't remember where I found, but if you ask in any max forum they will know where to find it.
