Just a couple of concepts I did up. Thinking of doing a water god/demon, not really evil, just likes to start mischief.

Any comments on the color schemes?

Edit: I've decided to make this the steed for a water demon, using the top concept.

hum.. nice.. in the final version you can apply a texture with 3S (if 3D Max w/ Final Render), or reflective refractive, or sometinhg like that :)

hm... the first sketch looks better... ;)

Maybe the first one could be the female and the other one the male (or a young), you could use both. And the transparent self illumination texture is great (like those deep ocean fishes)

Thanks for the comments! I guess now that they changed the rules the color isn't so important.

I've got the basic body shape down (I'll post what I've got tonight), but I'm trying to find ways to make the model itself more interesting. Must find fish reference on the internet. I'm also thinking of giving him a decayed flesh look, with all those nooks and crannies. :D

Well, I'm not so happy with this one, and I don't know if it's the design or the execution...

Any suggestions on how to make this more exciting?

Here's some wip screengrabs.

I like it, but... more teeth! more! and then add more teeth!. Perhaps bigger eyes, with big eye sockets, more curled tentacles, little demons like remoras, gallnuts, horns, a cowboy hat...

That jaw and face remind me old Maleborgia, from spawn. And a teacher of mine, too.

make something more detailed skin, the teeth separated from the head, and make more and sharpened teeth ;)

Thanks for the suggestions! I finally did d/l some ref pics of deep sea fish and started detailing the eye area. The teeth are just thrown in there (like the previous teeth) so that he doesn't look like he lost his dentures! I'm going to incorporate them like the spines over the eyes, so they look like they really embed into the flesh.

These are just screengrabs:

I just hope I have the time to do this level of detail over the whole body!

Cool idea ! It reminds me (a bit) the killing fish in SW EPI. Add more details to the gum (is that right, is it the name for the place where the teeth are settled in ?)

Now that is comming along just fine m8, maybe you could add a second row of teeth behind the current ones, sort of how the sharks teeth are layed out, but keeping the style you have used. Also IMHO instead of having the teeth you have sticking out the way, point them a little more into the mouth (that way they are more practical when gripping prey) :D

Probably no new pics until tomorrow (3/19). As for looking like SW Ep1...well, I'm a big fan, but I haven't looked at my Art of Star Wars book in a long time, so any similarities are subconsious.

I'm trying to take references about surface detail, fin placement, etc. from actual photos of deep sea fish (Viperfish, Rattail, Dragonfish, and Fang Tooth).

Joebount - Yeah, that gum area is taking some time. It will look like the spines over the eye; like they are actually growing out of the flesh. I could just inter-penetrate the geometry, but I'm kinda detail obsessed. :p

Wraith - Actually these pics already have 2 rows of teeth, but I've added a third row (making the gums even more compicated! :hmm: ). As for tipping too far out, I'm leaning towards the Viper Fish look, which is teeth so long the mouth can't close, and the front teeth point almost straight out. Weird, I know.

OZ - Thanks!

Well, this week sucked; I got nothing done! On top of that, my image host seems to have gone away, so I had to edit all my posts to the new links.

I did get a little done this weekend, though.

This is the "saddle" the sea-god uses to ride this beast. It is designed with a high back because of all the water pressure pushing against the rider when this animal swims fast.

How sad...3 of my own posts in a row. :( I need to work harder! :wip::wip:

I'm working on the lower jaw now, getting the teeth layed out.

I still need to add lots of greeblies to the saddle...maybe tomorrow.

No, I won't have time to make the god also...I'll be lucky to finish this beast! So much still to do and so little time to work!

Heh heh, Thanks guys!:D I need all the encouragement I can get! I've been swamped at work (milestone looming) and so I haven't had as much time as I'd like to work on this. Plus it's hard to stay motivated when you work long hours anyway. But I am going to try my best to have this finished in the seven (7!!?) days I have left. :D

Thanks guys! Work is sucking the life out of me, but I have been working. Here is the body. The round things are bioluminous spots (glow in the dark), a common feature of many deep sea fish. Working on the gills and neck area, but nothing to show yet.

And a very Happy Easter to all those who celebrate it.
