no offence im still new at this but how does a fan thing push in space theres no air? first assignment cool.

The planet looks good but spins way too fast. It should pretty much appear still if you're going for realism.

The background texture is too bright, and too low-res. I'm sure you can find some higher res space texture maps on the net.

Yeah, the fan thing doesn't make a ton of sense, but I guess that's getting too detailed. When I first started and made a space ship in 3ds max, I added a light in the rear and used Video Post to put some glare, glow, and a streak on it. I don't know if lightwave has that functionality, but I imagine it does.

Think of where the sun is. If the planet is lit, then the sun would be somewhere behind and to the left of the camera... yet your space ship seems to be lit from all over. In space, the shadows are nearly pitch black unless in orbit of a planet or moon which provides some ambient light.

Lastly, the camera movement is jerky. It starts and stops instantly instead of smoothly moving.

All in all though, nice work for a first animation!
