View Full Version : Line Sensitivity/Frustrations

I've looked and can't seem to find an answer to another question of mine. Here is my problem. I have a WACOM tablet, the smallest one, and am having a bit of a problem when I go to do inkwork/linework on a sketch.

It seems that my lines in Photoshop 7 are very, uhm, squiggly. As I am overtracing the sketch and doing the inkwork, the lines are very inconstant and jumpy, especially around tough curves. When doing the inkwork I am set to a hard brush at 100%/100% and very little spacing on the brush. This is not a normal problem with me when it comes to holding an ink pen or quill. I've noticed that its not as bad when I use ArtRage or the times I have used the Painter demo.

I've adjusted the settings on my tablet to try and help the sensitivity but it seems a thing within PS. Is it? And if it is, what can I do to try and ease the sensitivity a bit. It seems like its picking up every vibration in my hand as I try and ink.

I can post some line images to describe what I mean if that would help.

Would appreciate any info that might be available. Thanks!!!

Do you have the latest WACOM driver?

I do. I just happened to download them this morning because I was trying to deal with a problem with my version of Painter. But thank you! Tablet is running much smoother but the lines are still wobbly at times based on their angle or curve. So wish I could rotate the canvas at will on PS...

Anyway, still open to suggestions if there might be a trick I'm missing...

Do you have 'smoothing' checked in your brush palette?

Hi,

Set the size jitter in the brush palette to 0 if you use brush dynamics. Also check if there is any high number settings in any of the other jitter settings. You might want to adjust different settings and look at the brush stroke preview to see if the adjustments makes any difference.

Frankly I don't ink in PhotoShop. I use Painter IX.5. I've tried inking in both PhotoShop and Painter and I really really like the way Painter feels in the inking department, I just couldn't explain it it just feels better. And you can't beat the Rotate Canvas Tool! LOL.

I use PhotoShop mostly in the coloring department though.

Hi,

Try set the size, angle etc jitter in the brush palette to a low setting. Also check if there is any high number settings in any of the other jitter settings. You might want to adjust different settings and look at the brush stroke preview to see if the adjustments makes any difference.

I use PhotoShop mostly in the coloring and editing department though.
