View Full Version : applying multiple shaders to single MESh
underearth 05-28-2006, 06:49 AM hi there i am rigging one character and my knowledge about rendering and texturing is limited.. as my character is toony i want to ask you guys can i apply two diffrent toon shaders to diffrent part of same mesh.. way i want them to be...i don't want to select poly faces and assign the material as it doesn't give desired result

Well in the most basic sense, why not create a mask for where you want the two seperate textures to change (according to your UV layout) and then use the layered shader with the two seperate toon shaders you want to work with and your new mask as the layer mask.

well most biggest problem 4 me is i know nothing about hypershade and way texturing work in maya have little knowledge about 3dsmax material editor but not in maya....
well your method seems to me is best approach.. can you please elaborate the workflow with your method...
i have no uv mapping over my model.. and looking 4 way out.. but i will learn uv nmapping if there is no other chance..
i know its bad to ask 4 much.. but just explain a process little bit further..
what i got from u is that first i have to create uvw map of my character..then mask.. well dont know how to do that and then how to tell layer shader to use different shaders one on mask and another on rest..
for the time i am learning from help how to make uv..
thx 4 replying.. i am despertae to solve this and any help is appreciated..
