Hi folks

couldn't resist to model something new *g*. I always loved Lego - especially the Technic Boxes. I found some Time ago a page with hundres of Lego building instructions - so I thought let's do it - build a virtual Lego-Car.
Had to model more then 120 Lego-pieces, of which some of them looked easy but were actually quite tricky and vice versa. While modeling I noted the really intelligent proportions of Lego bricks etc. - most pieces where a real pleasure to model. After already approximately 30 hours of modeling I now only have to plug the model together...
this model is already 150 MB big and I haven't even the half done yet *sigh*... I think I need to start over from scratch and then use blocks - *sniff* that would mean a days work wasted....

C&C welcome

hey, I have that set, it took me like 5 hours to build... yours is looking good so far. That's really a great set to learn about the geometry of lego pieces and how you can connect things diagonally and perpendicular.

I haven't used rhino but I was wondering if it has instancing capabilities, so that it would only store one copy of each piece's geometry but then you could place as many copies as you wanted that reference the original geometry.

If not, you might want to model each piece in rhino and then assemble the set in a program that has instancing. You could save some memory that way.
