theboykidney 01-09-2003, 01:27 PM Can anybody tell me how to make an object a light source? i'm trying to make torus a neon light source. the glow effect doesnt really do what i'm after....cheers

Turn on Final Gathering. Put Constant shaders on objects you want as light source, and change their color to change the light intensity they emit.

In the mray 3.1 documents it says it supports geometry based area lights. With it's tight integration with XSI, there must be a way to access it within the program.

At the moment you can only do that by hacking the MI file. However, the "FG" solution that Bernard mentioned works pretty well. (See atached pic)
