Hi.. I'm kinda new as a 3d modeler.
The only thing I'm kinda good at is weapons.. though I sometimes try to do something diffirent and more.. err.. peacefull :p

anyway.. This is a High Polygon Version of the AI L96 Sniper Rifle.
I did a low polygon (1110) model for a addon pack for Operation Flashpoint.

I'm sorry if the pic is a bit big.. *shrug*

Awesome gun, I really like it. Hehe, when i first started modeling all i did was weapons, i don't know what about em that just makes it easier to learn such a complex program. If i were you i would move on to Instruments like guitars or violins or something if you want to broaden your range. In my experience you use a the same skills modeling guns as you do modeling instruments. Just a suggestion, but overall i love the gun.

For a high poly version you should do something with... well, I'm lacking technical terms for weapons (especially in English :hmm: ) - the long tube shaped part of the weapon (cough cough  ) should be more rounded, do some subdivisions, anyway - there is nothing I could add, because I do not know weapons very well. For a game model it is good of course ;) ...

Tommi, I think that part is called "the barrel", but I might be wrong. FatJoe, apply a Meshsmooth modifier to the gun and turn the iteration to 1. It might help... Because the barrel and the scope are'nt smooth enough.

Thanks for the compliments and coments :D

actualy, what I did was I applied Smooth on it but didn't turn it on.. (hope I'm making sense)

Made a new pic.. deleted the smooth modifier and added a light.. thought the first pic was a bit dark.

FrageNSTEIN, this topic is for FatJoe's sniper rifle, if you want to show your guitar then create your on topic.

About the rifle, isn't there supposed to be a hole in the barrel where the bullet comes out?

FatJoe

lol, no.. some factories put holes on their barrels just for the show off.. the bullet doesnt need to come out :p

yeah yeah, I know.. somehow I forgot to do that.. I simply went from the low polymodel to the high poly.. replaced the stock and the scope.. never thought of the barrel :hmm:

if its going to be a game model, then there is no need to model the hole, unless you have extra polys to use up. just use a texture map. PLUS, if its for an FPS game, then you wont even see the front of the barrel anyway. Good job.

nawh.. its supposed to be a high polygon model.. its around 2500 polys..

This (http://fatjoe.ofprc.net/Images/PUKF-L96-1.jpg) is the game model 1110 polys

and thanks for the coments

I'm not sure this can really be considered "High"poly. You really need to mess with your smoothing groups, and perhaps add some details. The rifle looks good, but for a real-time model.

i agree with 3DZealot, i wouldn't consider 2500 polys high for a model like this.......

well it feels like a high polygon when you've been working with models under 1000 for the most of the time...

ok, Tell you what..

I'll rename that to a Light version of a medium polygoned L96 Sniper Rifle :D
