View Full Version : My Aliens.
Phasmatis 01-09-2003, 12:29 PM These are quite old models but I've recently started work on them again so my sponge man has taken a back seat for while.
At the moment I have two characters, Zef and Sef, they are brothers working for a planetary taxi firm, here are couple of pics of Zef and the taxi. Sef only has a head for moment so I haven't put any picture of him up.
I'm a little undecided as to what texture he should have for his clothes, at the moment he's wearing a rubber type outfit, which suits him pretty well in my opinion but I like the other outfit as well, which is plasticy, what do ya think. :)

When I popped open the taxi, I actually said outload "Holy $!#@!".
The taxi is AWESOME.
Your character is cool. BUT, he doesn't seem to fit the same mold. The taxi is so nice and organic. The charcater however is stiff as a board.
I would like to seem the chracter with more shape to him. The legs for instance are very boxy.
I'm being rather straigt with you on this for good reason.
The taxi is far more interesting than your chracter. Equality is needed. :)
BRAVO - Keep up the good work! :applause:

I agree with Medula; the character is nice, but the taxi is *really* nice!

Thanks, yeah, you're right about the characters not working with the taxi,
I've tried to make a taxi that will fit with the characters, the one above is actually something like my fourth try at making one, it's totally based off this model (http://www.planetdeusex.com/tnm/phasimages/hover1.jpg) I did, hence why they look almost exactly the same. Perhaps I should go with my first try (http://www.planetdeusex.com/tnm/phasimages/firsttaxi.jpg) as it's a little more square.
Zef has kind of a stiff personality, which is why I'd rather not change the way he looks but I over did it with the detail on his clothes, if I manage to sort that out he should look a little more flexible.

The other taxi is cool too. But how do you get in it?
You should be a concept car designer!
Nice work
Ditto on the taxi, very cool :)
For a taxi that fits with your character I would try uptight loking shapes, like for instance boxy and boring looking, not that your char is boring I dont mean that, just more square and ungainly looking.
Stu.
Actually try posing your char like he is in a driving position and then model around him.

That taxi is great - i Agree!
It has the personality of a taxi/taxi driver if you know what I mean?
Good semantics - (er...think thats the word..)

Awesome looking taxi!!! The character is cool also, and may fit with the taxi if you are looking for contrast. Make your character goofy and clumsy and that will create a good conflict with a new sleek modern taxi!

The taxi is so cool but the alien needs some refining. It doesn't look very exciting... maybe you should toy with his proportions more... give him a bigger cranium or torso... and it needs texture work... the extrusions you currently have on the clothes don't have much of a purpose

Nice Nice Nice taxi! Do you think you can post a wireframe for me to look at from the box modeling?

For the other taxi you get in the back, which isn’t ideal but it’ll do. :)
Yeah, I think I’m gonna have to make another taxi. :) I may tone down the reflections a little; maybe make it a little grubby. The general feeling is that Zef is working for a taxi firm but he doesn’t want to or he thinks he deserves better, this is why I want him to be a bit stiff. The only reason he can’t get anything better is because of his brother Sef. Sef is a bit dumb and very needy so Zef has to look after him and the Taxi firm (I really need name for it) is the only company that will employ both of them.
That’s not a bad idea about posing him then modelling the taxi around him, I might just do that. :)
I’m currently working on Sef’s attire at the moment, he will look a bit clumsy and stupid and lot more rounder, I’ve taken out some of the extrudes in the Zef and made the clothes more bulgy, I’ll post some more pics letter.
Here (http://www.planetdeusex.com/tnm/phasimages/taxi1wire1.jpg) is the wire frame of the first taxi, I don’t really like showing people my wire frames until they’re finished because I always clean the mesh up afterwards so please note my meshes are usually much cleaner than that. :) I didn’t box model the taxi or the character by the way, I always use point modelling, I find it much easier.
Here's (http://www.planetdeusex.com/tnm/phasimages/taxi2wire1.jpg) the other taxi, I wasn’t sure which one you wanted to see.

I know this is now an old thread but I thought I'd use this instead of making a new one.
I haven't changed much on the characters yet, I've just made them slightly more rounder, I'll post a picture of them when I done more to them.
Here's what I've been working on for the last week or so. I spent most of my time on the lighting and I'm still not too happy with it mostly because the render time is huge.
Taxi Firm Hanger DayTime (http://www.imgmag.com/images/phasmatis/DayTime.jpg)
Taxi Firm Hanger NightTime (http://www.imgmag.com/images/phasmatis/NightTime.jpg)
I probably won't use the night time lighting setup but I thought it would useful to have if I ever need it. :)

Looks great so far!
I would like to see some grime all over the place. How about a bulletin board on the back wall with papers stuck to it?
Little details like that . . .
Keep up the great work!

A bulletin board is a nice idea, I've been meaning to put more stuff in there light spare taxi parts, repairing machinery etc, I'll get them sorted for the next render hopefully. :)
