I think you should work with some more references, it doesnt seem like the snake is alive. I like the ragdoll effect your doing with the mouse, but I think it needs to be trashed around a little bit more. Right now it looks like your just avoiding a clipping incident.

thanks for your comment.
intersection was my major concern... I've never done an animation like this before.
I will post a revised version and hope for some more comments.

That looks like a really difficult piece. As you mentioned, all the intersecting and rag doll effect of the rat.
I'm no expert, but I think the whole process (of a snake devouring a rat) takes a while. I think the rat would be slowly pulled in to the mouth. And I think the bulge needs to coincide more with the position of the rat in the throut area.

Wow, great effort, nice change to the usual stuff on this forum. Looks like a lot of work has gone into this. I like the touch of the snake rotating the rat, very nice, shows the snake working out how to manage its meal, adds character to the piece.
I'm not 100% up on snake anatomy, but it seems that your snakes jaw length is stretching at times. I've noticed that its jaw is coming forward too, but the actaul jaw length appears to be increasing too much.
another thing to look at would be adding a surface below the rat (the snakes jaw looks like it would intersect the ground if it were there. I recollect seeing a snake eat a rodent in some doco, the snake had to flip the carcase up a little at a time to edge its jaw under it.
Looking forward to seeing more of this.

Sontaran- thanks! I know... you are totally right about the floor deal.
But actually- the snake anatomy is 100%. In fact, it was directed by the curators of the exhibit this piece will be placed in. So indeed, a snakes jaw can dislocate in that way. Amazing huh?
Alright guys... I know there is still a lot wrong with this piece but I needed to get out a rendered version for user testing. This animation is taking place IN game.
