View Full Version : Hardcore Modeling Challenge: Big Ben (Clock detail)
Well, I'm in the middle of a freelance gig, so I will do just a piece of Big Ben. I will focus on the clock part. For an extra challange I will make most of it with polygons instead of bumb or normal maps. If there is time over when I'm done, I will shade and light the scene.

sounds good
Thanks for the thumbs up, Binder :)
2h 20min into it. Just using basic colour shaders to differentiate all objects. Currently at 26000 quads. :scream: Spare no expence. :D I could have used a texture for this, but hey it's a modeling contest right?

Looking good so far!
And yes, modeling all that details is the way to go in this competition. That's what I'm doing with my model too. Otherwise, the Big Ben is just a cube with some fancy textures.
Keep posting, I'll keep checking.
One crit: I think the little ornaments that are just outside (over or under) the numerals are too small.
thanks zzzrByte! You're right about the ornaments. I need to adjust that.
Where did you get that reference image? It looks great. Any chance of a link?:)
Well, I'll try to get some hours in on the model this week. Might be hard though.

Hmm, I can't seem to find where those images came from (one of the pages for "big ben face" on Google Images)...
But I uploaded them to my server for you, so grab 'em while you can:
