hi guys,

right now im in singapore and will leave to india by sat evening. i need some good advice fast. from the forums and sites, what ive seen is

quadro 380 xgl - 150$ is best bang for buck in the underdog segment.
r9700 pro is the best in the bigger ones.
gf 4 4200 is best bang for buck too.

but heres the question. which one is the best for maya 4 in both lowend and workstation classes? and how is parahelia with maya? and how will geforce fx be?

should i buy or should i wait? if buy, then what should i buy? preferred would be the budget class, but also, the card i buy should be useful for a couple more years. i use a pentium 3 800, but im upgrading to p4 very soon. please advice.

again, the questions clearly are :

should i buy now or wait for some other card (like geforce fx) to arrive, and will there be significant improvement worth the wait?

if i buy -----

what is the best budget model for maya 4.5 unlimited
and
what is the best model out there for maya 4.5
and
how does parahelia go with maya 4.5? is it worth the money?

thanks guys.

1. what is the best budget model for maya 4.5 unlimited?

I would say GeForce 4200 in the low end and FireGL 8800 in the higher end budget market.

2. what is the best model out there for maya 4.5?

The best highend models currently are Quadro4 980 XGL, FireGL X1 and Wildcat 7210/7110.

3. how does parahelia go with maya 4.5? is it worth the money?

I would say forget about Parhelia for serious 3d work. Its 3d acceleration is a joke.

well.. if you plug in 750XGL into pricewatch.com, i was blown away to see you can now pick one up for under $400... which is about the same price as a top end gaming card, and it will handle high poly scenes no problem... but more than just that... stability heaven.... :)

Quadro4 700 XGL will be much better than FireGL 8800 in performance and its price has been recently dropped. Pricing for it should be below $350 (~$325). It will have better Maya perf than 9700 Pro and just about anything below $600 and supports shaders in hardware with the new Maya Cg plug-in.

In Viewperf 7 3dsmax-01 a 380 XGL beats a FireGL 8800 and a 580 XGL is nearly 2x faster (both are cheaper).

Also, a small amount of feedback in this thread:
