The link isn't working for me.

Do you have an example of what you'd like to make?

thank you for this, i will give it a go when i get in. ... i am curious though is there a way to do it without using mental ray.. i am just learning this side of maya and mental ray seems like a big jump!..

thanks you again

Hi,

maybe there's a workaround about anisotrpic reflection with maya software... But the only one i know it's a cheat
Anyway...
Create a layered texture node...
Create a fractal texture and tweak it untill u obtain a dark and dense pattern
Now put it in the layered texture node u created early
Create a noise pattern and tweak it in the same way of the fractal...
Put it in ur layered texture node
multiplay layers under the blend mode menu...

Now plug layerd texture in specular color of a blinn material...
Look the results and adjust blurred effect with texture's values...

In the same way working with a layered shader and same trasparents shiny materials u can otain different results even with highlights.

Mmm... This is the only way i know with Maya software but
i'm sure there's a better way to obtain this effect...

wow thank you for this bluerock ...

i am starting to think i should focus more on learning mental ray than the maya render, with it being more powerful and alll it seems.

i will see if i can find some mental ray dvd's to purchase... anyone recommend the dvd over at "DIGITAL TUTORS" ?

thanks again
