here's a character design for a character called, Captain Earth . He's the leader of "The Soldiers of Justice" a very dysfunctional superhero team.

Capt. Earth has charisma, strength, courage, and not a brain cell in his body. His lines will tend to lean toward those of Elaine's boss on Seinfeld (best example I could think of, not ripping off Seinfeld).

Crits are welcome.

EDIT: The other pics that are referred to in this thread I removed due to forum policy. Whoops, my bad. I'll post a weblink... as soon as I create a web page for them... (biting tongue):hmm:

theres a captain planet..

Oh god, Captain Planet! I've tried to forget that show for ages now, but it was too ill-concieved and badly animated to forget. The only redeeming quality was the tiny monkey that South American kid had. Why? Cause primate sidekicks rule, like ChimChim on speedracer, and the purple monkey the Wondertwins hung out with.

Anyway, on to your piece! The costume design is scary, but you probably meant to do it that way as you're satiring super hero cliches. His hands seem to be different sizes too. And one of the lines on his leg seem to cut into his shorts. It looks weird, maybe you colored an area wrong, but its unsettling to see a superhero with a cameltoe. Otherwise, your anatomy is pretty solid.

Are you gonna have anymore designs for the rest of the Soldiers of Justice or is this just the trial run?

Holy shit he DOES have a camel toe! LOL! wow, I did not even see that, it'll be fixed.

Captain Planet was the lamest shit ever. The way I thought up Capt. Earth was this. A stupid super hero needs a name and an "angle." He sees Captain America, but says to himself, I'm bigger than Captain America. I'll be Captain Earth, because I'm the captain of an entire planet, not just a continent.

More designs for the rest of the team to follow.

Here's RATMAN the world's greatest and most neurotic detective. He's basically bruce wayne's technical mind with Woody Allen's many many neurosis'. Many times he's the voice of reason, but many times he goes a little overboard with his inventions.

crits are welcome as usual, (check out the leg to the left of the page, the anatomy of it was giving me trouble, and I'm still not sure if it's correct.)

Neal

Fixed Capt. Earth's uh... crotch problem btw.

Hey Neal, as for the Ratman leg problem, I think it's because the knee and the foot are pointing in two different directions. They should be pointing the same direction.
As for EVIL EYE (sorry to say this) but it would be so funny if the guy's name was really "Neal". When you put your name at the end of the post I thought his name was Neal until I looked at your other posts. It was funny to see just an Eye, but to give the guy a human name.
Keep posting!

dmcgrath- LOL! that's hilarious, how about he refers to himself as Evil Eye, but everyone around him calls him by his name, Steve.? like:

"Hey, Steve, do you-"

"EVIL! EYE! Call me Evil Eye, guys, GEEZE! I've got a big EYE for a HEAD. Okay? So let's all get this straight, my name from now on... is Evil Eye."

"What if your mom calls?"

"then my name's steve... yeah forgot about that one..."

... maybe I should get some sleep, maybe not. Thought it was funny, here is MOUSTACHIO, master of disguise. He change costume in the blink of an eye, thanks to his magical moustache.

He's Italian, a bit of a drinker and a terrible womanizer.

crits are welcome as usual

That is a fantastic idea. I love the dialogue already. It's very much along the ideas behind Ben Edlund's "The Tick". You've got something really funny. Keep it coming!

"The Tick" was hilarious! The live version was not so great, but the cartoon was genius. Never got into the comic version of them. Comparisons to "The Tick" are pretty much unavoidable, but the challenge with this is to make something that stands on its own and is its own entity.

And with that, here is the latest member of the team, completing the quartet that is "The Soldiers of Justice". AMAZING MOM is the hottie of the group, though she is basically the mother figure of the team. Her business suit of power gives her super strength so that she can give crime a good spanking.

crits as usual are welcome,

Hey thanks Matt! Right now I'm really trying to get all the designs down, but soon I'm going to throw them in After Effects and animate them like "Sealab 2021" does, for practice.

Practice for my new job! Today, I officially signed on as an assitant designer/editor for Cartoon Network's "Sealab 2021". I'm pumped.

Wow, Sealab 2021! Congratulations man! That is so cool! (I've always wanted to do a tribute to the old style of cartoons like Bakshi's Spiderman.) Awesome, Awesome!

Irie- feels good to have a job? dude, you have no idea. I don't have to check CgTalk's studio's hiring page any more! I seriously am a very very lucky guy.

Creepstown and Tommy Lee- Hey guys! thanks for the congrats! This is a job that I really didn't expect to even be open. I did my internship with these guys and it was awesome, but never did I think that they would actually increase their studio by hiring me. A dream come true, not to be too cliche-ed(sp?). Thanks again, and look for my name in the credits for the next year and a half,

sincerely,

Neal Holman

Ps this is not to say that I'm stopping all involvement with this and other forums within CgTalk. It remains my favorite and most visited website. that and it's addictive....

Levi- hey thanks man, sort of weird not going and seeing you guys in class every day. These characters are something that I'm working on for a number of reasons.

1.) I'm trying to use them to help me learn AE, using the same sort of techniques they use in "Sealab:2021."

2.) They're also some of the many designs I'd like to challenge myself as far as modeling goes. But in that aspect, there's about a dozen different things I'm working on, and am sort of getting ahead of myself. (I've also got a series of 1-minute animated shorts that pit the demon model against a baptist preacher. You can see pics of the animated demon, here:

http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=35132&highlight=pics+of+new+character

3.) About a year ago, I wrote a 60+ page script involving these characters. It's got some really great points (Evil Abe Lincoln) and some really bad ones, so I'm trying to rewrite and rethink the entire project and flesh out some characters more.
(anyone who wants to read it, can download it here:

http://jake.drama.uga.edu/~nholman/

the file is "Soldiers of Justice2.doc"

4.) uh... not sure what #4 is.

Talk to you guys soon,

neal
