Hello,

there will be an Update next week for the PhotoMatch plugin, adding lens distortion analysis and simulation tools.
The update will be free for current PhotoMatch v3 users.
I did a simple sample movie demonstrating some of the new features:

Hope you like it.

Thank you Aurety. I am glad you like it.
The new Video Posteffect will open new possibilities, so I am open for feature requests for future updates as well. Maybe someone who is dealing with architectual scenes and compositing a lot has some additional ideas?

This looks like a great update Arndt, and the video makes it very understandable. Thanks for continuing to add useful features to PhotoMatch. Can the new version handle photos shot with a Perspective Correction lens? That would be a useful feature for architects. Maybe the lens center offset handles this?

yes I have ! As Base80 explain in this great tutorial to use PM to model and texture from a picture, it would be a great feature to have more option in "add polygon" mode. Like some primitives ( cone, sphere ), like imagemodeler from Realviz ( to high costs for my little needs but very usefull program I think ). By this way, it will be easy to modelize "in-situ". Hope you'll understand me.

Hello Arndt,

Awesome addition to an already impressive tool!!! I have most your other plugins and I have to say I use at least one of them every day (Trans Pro & VreelSkin), high quality stuff.....any of your plugs are a must have! Never really had too much use for PhotoMatch, but now I think I could put it to good use, it's on my list!

Great stuff, Arndt! The post effect by itself is already a very valuable additon for illustrators as well, not just the compositors and FX people.

On the topic of compositing and matching though, do you see any value in providing presets for different film format and lens combinations? So one could select, for example, a 24mm lens on a 35mm format (any maybe with a mulitplier option for digital cameras). It would be a great help to the math-deficient like myself!

Oh and did you mention before that this version would be for 9.5+ only?

Thanks again, Arndt!

Thank you mustard seed,
yes, unfortunately the new post effect requires C4D v9.5, but I also did some experiments with a channel shader that can do the same thing.
The downside of the shader is that it takes much longer to render and that it needs better AntiAliasing to look good.

Hi Jack,
I am not so much into the photo business so I haven't used a perspective correction lens yet.
Do you have any image to share that shows a typical distortion for this kind of camera/lens?

Here's a page on a Tilt-and-Shift lens from Canon. It's meant to correct the perspective distortion while you're shooting. So I doubt if you still need the distortion option in PM for this kind of corrected images?

BTW: great update Arndt!

Thank you odo,
now I understand. This is what you can do with the camera offset in Cinema 4D.
As there is no distortion you'll not need to simulate it with PhotoMatch. As I understand it you'll not need PhotoMatch for those images at all as you can just place objects in the front view and use that window for rendering. This will give you an image without any distortions.

Excellent update and nicely demonstrated in the video tutorial. Photomatch is becoming an indispensible plugin, I find uses for it all the time.

nice addition,
would this post effect ( camera distortion) also work with final render?

Hi moka,
does FR support Cinema 4D Post Effects?
I have no idea. I don't own FR yet.

What a pleasant surprise to have the update in my mailbox.
Once again, excellent job with the plugin. Thank you

ps: I load a hi-res pic to photomatch and boom! the Front viewport goes slow as snail. Is it because C4D now loads hi-res to the viewport background? how can i speed up the framerate when using photomatch?

ps2: playing with the latest demo i noticed that C4D got balloon bubbles as help text. Excellent, I think I asked that a year or so ago -and I was sceptic enough to think I'd never see them:D
