I have a naked man and the uv set i have at the moment while it works with the normal maps I've generated it seems a bit seamy. I have a few ideas about how to change it, but i'd like to try and see if there are any layouts that are conscidered "best" for this type of thing. That or are there any "laws" that people try and observe.

My layout at the moment in brief has a the head at the top separated from the body which has a seam down the back, this bleeds into the legs. The arms are cut off and are mapped from shouder to hand in the vertical. Hands and feet are separate.

( a picture would be better but i dont have one to hand at the moment )

So are seams good or bad? should i try and make everything as much as possible contiguous. If i have to have a seam from what i can tell from what i ve got from this layout they should be on the same u or v plane. Anything else to be aware of? Worried at the moment that an much more contigous layout will be very wasteful of space.

Im rambling.

meh

seems are bad... but if you already know what are you gonna do in terms of camara and body movement (if there is animation), and you are not gonna be able to see them, then don't worry about them. best advice would be to plan your seams according to your camera... it is very rare to see the full body (360 degrees) on a short piece.
