View Full Version : Is there a point bevel / extrude?
Twyst 01-09-2003, 03:25 AM I'm playing with Wings3D, which is a wonderful free package, with a couple of limitations - Mainly in rendering and texturing.
Anyways, I was having a bit of trouble with a simple bunnymech I was working on (didn't turn out good. On to the next!), and decided to try recreating it using C4D's built-in modelling tools. It went pretty good, except for one thing..
I can't bevel or extrude a point. I kind of rely on that, since it makes certain things really really simple.
Is there a plugin of some sort that does this? It would be a great tool for the "box-modelling" style.
(also, out of curiousity, is it just me, or does everyone get vbulletin "server too busy" errors? Maybe the admin/webhosts should look into that?)

The server too busy things crops up every time cgtalk gets too many more users - they are always tweaking/upgrading the hardware though so it shouldn't be too long.
In the meantime there is not point bevel ot extrude - I too miss it from using Nendo (spiritual forefather of wings3d).
It is a bummer - I'm not sure if Edge Extrude Pro can do it - you can find it at Creativecow.net on the Dairy Store.

wing3d, nendo, 3ds max 5, realsoft 3d ( finland ) , and lw all got point extrude, shouldn't miss this important command in upcoming upgrder or new version. hope so.

Wow another Realsoft user! - I learned on Real3d 1.4, 2.x and 3.x - still have a v 4.1 around but use a mac these days - found a home with Cinema (bastard child of Realsoft and Maya):)

Realsoft is cool, although the material shader system is a bit complex. Bone sys is no impressive, the most i like it modeling.
In fact, I don't use it, just reviewed it for V.4 and like its editing feature for face, edge, and vertex, extruding point is cool, a useful function in R3D, even earlier than max 5.
Have no idea how 4.5 is all about, got to check it again.
Another good 3D from Eu.

I've been asking for it for a while, you'll also note there is no edge bridge.
So here are some solutions I use:
For edge bridging in R8 you'll find that acivating the brige tool in point or poly mode and changing to edge mode will allow you to bridge while in edge mode.
For point bevel use Ardnt's edgebevel plugin ona single point, for extruding, well your sol but you can pull out the point from a soft edgebevel using arndt's plugin
