I'll post my sketches and WIPs here. Hopefully this will also give me incentive to draw more and improve. I'll try to post as much as I can, and I'm sure that critiques will help me not get stuck, so I won't spend hours staring at a picture pointlessly. So, time to get started, here are two things I'm working on.

Kyou portrait:

This is a sort of "project" where I try to draw a reference of this character so that my future drawings of him are consistent. Kyou is male, but is more feminine-looking than I usually allow, partially because I have a soft spot for girly men and partially because of some running gags in the RPs/stories I've used him in. The scary thing is, he looks "manlier" than about half of the J-rockers out there. Anyhow, I need to work on the eyes and nose, but I'm a bit stuck, mostly because I'm indecisive and lack experience. A side note: I doubt I'll ever draw a neck or highlight/detail the hair since this is a face sketch. However, if you want to inform me of some fun ways to render hair, feel free to do so.

This second one I just started, a random sketch I drew without thinking.

The darker arrows are shadows. They don't really have a direction, but I drew the arrows to remind myself that I wanted them uneven and with a "creeping" feel. I'm not really sure about the anatomy here (no reference, as I only use reference in study sketches and I lack anything of thos pose anyway). Her chest I'll fix, I just plopped some shaped with a large brush, so it doesn't look good at all. Also, I'm not sure if the composition is okay. It looks okay to me, but that doesn't mean anything. I'd like this to have that sort of darkish blue/torquoise colot scheme, but I want the girl's body to stand out, so I want a warmer skin tone on her... but I'm not at all sure about the colors besides the fact that I want to use those blue-ish colors for the background, and the light blue as the main light color. So, any tips there will be really great.

Off to bed for now.

i'll critiqe in the morning, you people make me stay here way to long.

it's a good start, tehre are a few things, but i am tired and it makes it even worse.

i don't wan't to make a bad critique so off to sleep.

keep working and keep posting. the only thing is try and work more on the anatomy and posture. keep that in mind, that is where i see some problems.

Didn't have much time to do anything today, so here's something. Reference used for most of it, then I went back later and added more shadows and such. I need to force myself to make darker shadows.

Well, at least I found a better way to highlight lips.

Looking good, but her right eye (the left side of the pic) looks a bit too close too her nose; You should move it a bit more. Other than that, this is looking promising.

Moved the eye a little. I guess it does look a bit better. Sorry to disappoint, but I was never planning to take this any further, since it's just a practice sketch. I never use references for "finished" things, only for practice. I kind of like this green eyes and cloak idea, however. Perhaps I'll make something based on this later.

Didn't have a good couple of days (art-wise), but I did sketch this yesterday, and it's not unbearably painful. Tried to give it a sort of video game look, at least on the hair. She has hair growing out of the sides of her head. Forgot to finish the ear, but the point of this sketch was to draw a face to keep in shape. Random bit: It started out as a white man and turned into an asian woman. I like it better this way.

I've noticed that I've never really practiced drawing lips from an angle besides profile and front. I've drawn them tons and they've looked... okay, but now that I started actually thinking about how I should draw them... I can't get them right anymore. I'd like to practice drawing lips and noses (together), but I can't do it from my imagination because I'm just not sure what the lips and nose look like from certain angles. Does anyone know of a good place to find references for this sort of thing to practice and learn? I've tried using myself, but it's difficult to maintain the same angle when you have to constantly change where you're looking, and the CD I use as my reflective surface kind of washes out of the details.

Also, I'm working on some pixel (GBA-style) maps for an RPG game segment we're making in school, so I might post that. My way of making maps is kind of odd.

Perhaps I should have made a new thread, but since this one still exists, I might as well use it. Working on something new now, and it has to be done somewhere around August 7. The thing is... I'm already stuck and I'm not even out of the sketching phase. So, here's what I have.

A head sketch, I don't really want to redraw it completely, but small bits can be modified, the neck can be (and needs to be) changed and the hair is on a separate layer, so it can also be changed.

Trying to decide on a pose, here are two alternatives:
http://www.eishiya.com/dsg/poses.jpg

I cut the heads off because I drew some weird faces on them and didn't want those to influence anyone's opinion of the (poorly-drawn) bodies. Feel free to crit these, I've never drawn these sorts of poses. They seem pretty doable (at least I did them okay after drawing them), but maybe I have messed up anatomy on my body xD;

I also don't know whether to go with dark, cool coloring (purples, blues, maybe some reds), or with something brighter, with pinks, reds, and oranges. This is what happens when I start something with absolutely no story. If anyone feels I should give up before I spent any more time on this, feel free to say so.

I like the sketch of the elf. She has interesting design. :)

Sadly, I didn't draw it right since I wasn't in a drawing mood. I should try it again some time.

I fiddled with some colors and came up with this. When drawing in the red "clothes" I decided that they should fuse with her skin almost like the red markings on old watermelons... then I remembered the legdn of vampire watermelons with such markings and decided she should be one. An anthropomorth vampire watermelon xP They are harmless, and she does look kind of harmless, and the red would look kind of nice. The shadow on her skin was green before I came up with this, so I extended it, and I might add watermelon-ish markings in those shadows, whereas the highlighted areas have a "human" look.

The hair will probably be black or dark green, I forgot to change it after making her a watermelon.

Anyway, any critiques before I murder this with my horrendous skills?

I remembered halfway that I only needed to fix her back, not re-sketch her entire body. I suppose it was kind of fortunate, since the hand is really off. Any crits on it? I don't have any way to get a reference a hand at that angle due to a scary lack of mirrors.
