Actually this is to be an animated short (about 5 minutes). It's a Christmas DVD I am making, but I am also wanting this to be for my demo reel (at least parts of it).
Anywho. I started this about a week ago in Maya, and went through several designs untill I found one that was simple yet had purpose (or something like that). The thing is I wanted to use Pixie to render the whole short, so while modeling this thing I also wrote custom shaders. Some may argue that shading or texturing should be last, but in my mind the shading also helped in how this thing evolved from a simple ball and head to a character.
I also have not even rigged it yet, I still need to add fingers, as well as bottom eyelids. There will not be a mouth, nor a nose, or eyebrows for that matter. There will be other misc objects placed on it, and rigged to be removed, but that can wait for a bit.
So I guess here is my little robot, and mind you this is also one of the first images I have posted here, so be gentle (if you can).
(oh and by the way - the ball base at the bottom is just displacement shader, and the bumpy specular highlights is due to tiny displacment bump mapping.)
